I think 2 min for nearly 2 GB are reasonable. After all just copying such a file on system level takes quite long (although not that long).

But you're right, it doesn't make any sense.

But, ehm...how do I get/change it to/... the 64 bit version? x)
just enter your codes here : http://www.tvpaint.com/v2/content/artic ... pdate.php/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and select 64 bits Mac version.

Thanks! Okay, so now I'm working with TVP 10.5.5 64 bits, but it didn't change anything. I drew just 3 more frames, saved it, it still takes 1:51 min to save the 1,77GB file. Then I opened the big file (5,42GB) again, made some changes, and saved it, and it takes 2:09 min now - at least it makes more sense now that it takes longer. :? OH! But I'm just noticing, the once 5,42GB are now 1,77GB as well o_O TVP works in mysterious ways... So basically it's smaller but takes twice the time to save as yesterday. Sounds logical.
I'm just afraid I keep doing something terribly wrong which causes this.

Well... I just hope it'll be fine once I split the project.

Nothing magical, just the excellent work of our developers ;)

Yeeeeah, I don't mean to offend but well...I'd rather have it take up more space and saving faster :D

The compression does not help you to save time , just to save place ^^

Do you have other programs working at the same time ? Skype, Photoshop, Flash or something ?

Nothing but Firefox and iTunes ;) The thing is, since my update yesterday (RAM+SSD) everything else goes SUPERfast, working with AfterEffects is SO MUCH faster now, programs start faster - it's just TVP that seems not to care about the hardware upgrades. :D

Can I ask just out of curiosity, you open up a 5GB file in After Effects and it only takes seconds but TVpaint takes minutes? (How big is your After Effects file?)
I actually had always the opposite experience. Photoshop would take minutes to open up a 500mb file while TVpaint took seconds.

About updating your TVP: If you use "Check for updates" within the Help tab, you will be automatically connected to exactly the place you need to be to do this; just don't forget to close TVP before you install the update.

Sorry, the other question I can't help you with.

furushil: Nah, I can't really compare the two, I don't exactly have a big AE file. I just noticed that in general, it opens much more quickly and also rendering goes much faster... But my AE files aren't that big. For one small video/animation of 1:15 min, the file is about 300KB, which of course takes nothing to load and save. (For example, rendering said film in best quality took 2 min and the file is 6GB. Saving the TVP project takes 2:09 min for 1,77GB...)

I think this all is perfectly normal.
I just created a 1920x1080px file with 4000 frames (one layer) and saved it. It took 2 minutes to save it. The file is 3,5GB now. My CPU worked at 6-10% for that and then after the save it rendered the scene at 50-60%.
So, probably not even a stronger CPU would help (but I am not an expert).

I am pretty sure if you open up a 5GB file in Photoshop it would take "days".

Okay, thanks! Then I'll soon split the project up in several parts and see if it works fine like that. :)

I just tortured my computer for fun and created a 1920x1080px (72dpi) file in Photoshop. Then I smeared some brush strokes on the canvas and copied the layer 2500 times ( so almost half the frames as in the TVPaint test).
Both programs are similar, because you draw with pixels.
Then I hit save and it took 3:18 minutes to save. But after it was done saving, it didn't actually save but told me this:
1.png
1.png (22.85 KiB) Viewed 22392 times
Basically the file could not be saved because it is larger then 2GB.

After Effects is fast because it just loads in already existing footage.
I think also that rendering out a scene is different than saving a project, because after you render something you cannot manipulate the pixels anymore.

(Yes, I have nothing to do right now  )
