Camera tool pan and zoom?

Hello new to TV Paint here.

I´m not sure where to post this question. It is such a wast forum. But maybe somebody can guide me.

I´m trying to pan my animation.

1st question:
Lets say I have walk cyclus or an animation in place on Layer 1. I Want to sort of drag this animation across the screen from my left to my right :arrow:
How is that done.
I tryed to follow the section on storyboard camera tool guide. But I´m not making it???

2`nd question:

Lets say I have a scene amongst many scenes in my time line. And for an example I want to pan or zoom or something "camera" to a specific scene that is located as sc number 8 or 25 orsomething like that. How do I pin point that specific scene out and only apply camera stuff on that??

It is very similar to your question.

I'm not sure if I understand this question correctly but in the Project tab you have your scenes. To every scene a separate camera move can be applied.

You can look it up in the manual when you search for "storyboard".

It sounds like alfatoons wants to create a camera move across several clips (or scenes, as s/he calls it). This is a complex move if that is the case and if I had to do that, I would first combine the number of clips into one and then create the move. The reason I hadn't answered these questions is that I have a hard time understanding them -- I am not sure if furushil really answered the first one correctly.

Alfatoons, could you illustrate your questions with a sketch -- the kind of schematic you would draw on a blackboard while you were posing the questions?

Are you a female alphatoons, or a male alpfatoons?

By the way, if your 1st question is how to make a walk cycle cross a background while followed by a camera, I suggest you do it this way:
1. Create a project that has the size of your long background.
2. Draw a walk cycle. It can be a character that walks in place, or makes two steps; left foot, then right foot.
3. Cut the cycle out as an animBrush. To do this, select (highlight) all frames of the cycle by dragging your cursor under the frames from right to left. Take your freehand cut tool and draw the red bounding line around the area that ALL Drawings cover. You will be given a question "Cut Out an AnimBrush"? and you answer Yes. After this happens you will have your entire walk cycle in your pen tip which you can paste down, one at a time, across the entire background (do this with your LightTable activated).
4. Activate your camera tool and create the pan move that follows the character.

What language do alphatoons speak natively? Perhaps there are others here who can speak that way too.

Thanks for your reply :)

Okay I will try to explaine my self better.

1: A walk cyclus in place or an animation in place. Does´nt really matter.
2: A BG (Static) Like meaning NO movement.
3: Animation (for the example) MOving across the "stage" either right or left up or down or what ever is the choice!..

I have up til now been working in DigicelFlipbook and the camera tool function is extremly easy to use. You just select the first frame of either the BG or your animation.Then select the cameratool move either your BG or animation frames as a "packaged" and move the whole thing where ever you want. And then select the last frame where you want the move to stop. And voila !:)
I have adde a little JPG to illustrate what I was looknig for.

Nice, and your English has improved; where have you been the last three days?
What you describe here is done with the KeyFramer in TVPaint, which isn't as simple as your Digi Ice. But in my view there is a drawback on making this type of camera pan your way, which is, that you have little control over preventing the "skating effect" from happening. Besides, you would have to have your project set to 24fps.

If you are like most of us here and you animate at 12fps and let the Export Panel add an additional instance to each frame automatically when you render your clip out, you would have to switch to a 24 fps rate for this kind of a move in KeyFramer.

I strongly recommend that you at least give my AnimBrush suggestion a try. First of all, you can stay at 12fps (the camera move adapts to 24fps during export!).

Secondly you can use the simpler and much more intuitive camera tool for the pan, and thirdly, when you paste down your individual drawings, you can be assured that each footstep syncs up with the previous one (no skating effect) and at the same time you can make your character follow bumps on the backgrounds so that it doesn't have this windup toy mechanical look when crossing the plain as straight as an arrow.

You are in luck with Danish here, because some of the best explainers are Danes and very approachable, starting with Madsjul from Viborg.

Well I see what your are saying about the skating effect.True!

BUt sometime you need to do animation that is not true to the natural way of behaving. Music video in example :) I think from my knowledge Adobe Flash has this function as well. Example you animated a bird flying in a cycle. Then It could be nice just to drag the "thing" across the stage as you please:) You have a held Cel(Instance) that you want to move from either side of the stage to a certain point.Shold be an easy task to do if Digicel can do it! No? Just could´nt find where to do it..

I know about Mads. But I dont like to impose my self with all my TvPaint questons. I just trhow it out there and see who have time to guide a bit.

I agree with you on all points. In that case KeyFramer is your answer and it's not all that complicated as we sometimes make it sound. The advantage of KF is that you can move any amount of layers at the same time, so if you have your paint on a layer under the line drawing, you can move them together without having to first merge them.

Furushil!!!

Truly and really thank you for taking your time to do this. This is exactly what I was thinking and looking for.
You know I´m new to TVPaint. Tryed it out long time ago left it and now came back to "crack the nut" sort of speaking.

I do not mean to diss any software developer. But It is a puzzel to me ,that most of all the software aimed at making animation, is constructed in a very complex way to use. Atleast for the user,In my opinion.

I see in you example that I have to go thru 11 clicks or steps to achieve a simple thing like this little pan that you showed. And it would be like a walk in the jungle for a new commer, traditional paper and pencil animator like myself, to figure out that I ctually had to go thru 11 steps to achieve this. And I do not see a clear example in the manual.
It is , in my opinion , such a great feature to have, easy at hand, when you want to show clients your idea. Instead of trying to explane all the movements.They usually do not understand:(

You are welcome.
At first it may seem complicated but if you do it a couple of times you will see that it is really easy and straight forward.
It is actually explained in the manual with the butterfly ,I think.

If you really want to see complicated, shoot your paper panning animation cycle under a camera on an animation stand. :mrgreen: If I had to describe all the steps of that task, this entire page wouldn't have enough room. But to explain why some animation programs are more complicated than others, the short of it is that some are vector systems (giving you a small latitude in drawing styles, and bitmap, or raster systems such as TVP, giving you a huge latitude in artistic choices, with the tradeoff of more work for the computer to move all those complex drawings about.

Ok I Understand.

But how come developers are making such amazing!! and complex!! softwares that are so sufisticated in the amount of "stuff" they can do. But such a simple thing like "grabbing you frames and move them around is to be a complex task?? I`m just wondering not as I said dissing anybody.


1: draw/make your frames
2: Select your animation/frames
3: Select 1`st frame of movement,and mark a "KEY"
4: Drag your animation to the desired frame, make a "Key"
That´s it.
I love the fact the TvPaint is "real time"
