animated mask

Hello,

Is there are way to avoid the reset of the current position when assigning a B-spline point to follow a path? This happens even I have a keyframe set.

I am trying to make a mask ,using the rototracking tool, that reveals this spiral:

Why are the name of the point and rototracking keyframe layer name not matching, this is extremely confusing since I have many point to work with.

I know I could animate everypoint individually but it makes it way harder to control the timing.

hi Momo,

i don't have an answer to the rotospline issues,
but looking at what you want i'd say you are better off choosing a different method.
a reveal like this can be done in many ways.
the fastest for a simple line like this would be Auto paint.

1) press record a stroke
2) draw the spiral
3) press stop recording
4) apply fx

Note that you can control the timing of the reveal by compressing or expanding the keyframelayer, before you apply.
And also note that by setting "preserve timing" active, tvp will reveal the line with the same dynamic as you drew it.

How do you do that? Do you mean I just change the exposure accordingly? Or there is a way to move all the litte + signs around?


The little details that I love with the rototracking is that you can have the edge fade in or out, which is really really nice that why I was trying to use the rototracking FX.

Guess I ll have to just bite the bullet and animate every single point... :shock:

you can use those white handles of the keyframe layer to speed up or drag out the action
and you can indeed select groups of keyframes and shift those as a group around the timeline

the fade effect can also be achieved using Autopaint, because it lets you put down any brush that happens to be the current one,
so you could for instance use a very soft edged airbrush and apply the AP effect a second time on a separate layer
then use that second layer as a stencil to erase the sharp bit of the pass on the first layer (maybe you need to offset it a little.
...experiment.
everything beats biting the bullet (though it also helps if you just love figuring out ways to solve these kinds of problems :wink: )

Great that worked!

While using the stencil I figured that I could also draw the spiral on one layer(the original spiral was drawn using the bezier tool which doesnt function with the autopaint) and then (while the stencil is on) recording a tracing of it on top of it.

Yeah usually fast is better but since this is just a small test to learn TVpaint, I can have the luxury to take the time. Which in this business is a rare thing :cry:

The old-fashioned analogue way to do this: draw a perfect spiral, (duplicate), then erase frame by frame, then reverse the frames.

This is exactly what I would suggest. Much quicker, same result.

Ah! I love the analogue way to do things. It is indeed pretty quick. While trying this approach I found out another method using the bezier curve.

Draw the spiral or whatever with the bezier in a new instance.
Go to the next frame delete the drawing and press "enter" the path of the bezier will appear, delete one point. Press enter again to create the line on the path.
Then just repeat the steps until done.


I didnt know that the bezier path could be recalled like that this is great for animation! :D

There is a bit of a bug when using a pen tablet because when you left clic to delete a point and clic on "delete" it deletes the point but often create a new one....so you need to repeat a couple of times until it just deletes the point without creating a new one.
