Constant crashing while saving
Constant crashing while saving
OS-windows 7
OS architecture-64 bit
Software version-10.5

Hi there,
I normally don't mind things happening once in awhile but this is happening way too much, which leads me to the forums today. My problem is that while I'm saving TVPaint stops working and I'm forced to close the program. I've noticed this occurring when I start to save after big changes, it rarely happens when I'm saving every few minutes. I'm now wondering if anyone may know what the problem is and what I might be able to do aside from creating backup files.
Attached to this post is an image of what I see every time.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Re: Constant crashing while saving
The culprit behind these crashes are sometimes hard to pinpoint. I had been suffering for a long time with a very similar affliction until I finally found the culprit in my AVAST! anti-virus. If this (or some other anti-virus) might be present in your case, try disabling it (and any other similar spyware or whatever you may have) for awhile and see if it'll change things for you.
What I then did was to switch to Window's own built-n "Defender" (Microsoft Security Essentials) and am very happy with it, because it does what you expect it to do without the obnoxious bells and whistles and add-ons and pushy enticements which can interfere with other present software performances.

Re: Constant crashing while saving
What is your exact version of TVPaint Animation 10 ?
Go into [help > about] and let us know the exact number : 10.5.?
What if you save in an other drive ? Does it happen always with the same file ?

Re: Constant crashing while saving
Hi neko405
I've had and still having this problem to this day. I tried almost every thing. What I learned so far.
It's most likely not a TVP isue. Every havy application will cause the same problem. In my case Photoshop and even Firefox.
If you Google the problem it wil not bring you a solution. Also Mocrosoft wil not. ( what else is new ) It could be a hardware problem of some kind.
You may try and disconnect evry bit of hardware attached to your computer by means of a cable. Than swap every bit of hardware inside your computer one by one untill you hopefully get a chash free performance. If not, like in my case, swith on the autosave and put on 10 minutes interval. It drives me nuts but at least I can work without loosing a lot of work.
It's stange and dificult to pinpoint. I even installed a clean Windows on a new drive and installed TVP as the only application. The result was exactly the same. After a while it crached as on the other disk. The interface get ghosted and in the top taskbar it says "TVPaint is not responding". You can wait for ever and hope it starts again but it wont. if you finally click the popup window TVP will shut down and you lost everything.
It seems like a memory problem but even with 16 Gig of memery it does not change. On 4 gig I had no problem for a while when I started to use this computer on W7.
Hope this is of any help. Regards Henk.

Hi there Paul,
I'm also using Microsoft Security Essentials with no other anti-virus or spyware detectors. I haven't had any more crashes but I'll keep what you mentioned in mind for next time. Thank you for responding to my post.

Hi Fabrice,
My TvPaint version is 10.5.7. I haven't experienced anymore crashes yet but from what I have noticed, it may occur with any file and happens most often when I forget to periodically save, resulting in a bigger chunk of work needing to be saved. The crash happens midway through saving. I haven't tried saving in a different drive yet but will do so and report back if it happens again.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Hi Henk,
It seems like I'm not the only one with this problem. I'll most definitely be setting up an autosave from now on. It seems having multiple copies of the same file is not enough.
Thank you for taking the time to read my message.

Also, what is your project size ?
Re: Constant crashing while saving
Usually the problem is in your software. Some softwares get conflict with one another. Have you tried disabling your antivirus? This might fix the problem.

I think I may have solved my problem, at least it hasn't happened anymore. I took my laptop to the techs and they said it may have been an overheating issue from many years of not cleaning out the insides of my laptop. I had the cleaning done and so far the crashing isn't reoccurring. Here's to hoping that really was the case and no more constant crashing.

Well, I'm back again. I'm finding that I still have issues with saving. My TVPaint keeps crashing while saving, it is such a pain and wastes so much of my time. My friend has had this issue too, and she solved it by deleting extra TVPaint files. I've tried the same method and only have my most recent TVPaint files on my laptop, but it still does not work. I've also tried reinstalling but that didn't solve anything. A solution to this would be nice, I look forward to your replies.

Re: Constant crashing while saving
Hi neko405,
Have you tried resetting your configuration ? (by deleting it in the Startup panel -make sure you have a backup just in case).
We also need more informations : are your Wacom drivers up to date ? What is your project's dimensions ?

Hi Thierry,
Thanks for replying. May I ask what you mean by the startup panel? My Wacom drivers are all up to date and my project's dimensions are 829,928 kb in size if that is what you mean.

Re: Constant crashing while saving
Hello again,
You can access the startup panel via this option in the Preferences panel :
Then quit TVPaint and restart it. This panel should open :
To reset your configuration, simply click "delete" (this will erase your entire configuration)
Your projects is 830MB ? That's a lot. What are its width and height ?
