Audio problem- Strange 'beat' sounds

Post by s.simon »

I'm a pretty new user to TVPaint, and have just started using the audio function (I have TVPaint 11).

For the most part, it works perfectly, however at seemingly random times it inputs a steady metronomic 'click' sound over top of the imported tracks. I checked the original files (MP3) and there is no such 'beats' or 'clicks' in them, so it must be something with TVPaint.

I was wondering if anyone else encountered this kind of problem, and if they found a solution. Is it something I can fix in settings? Is it a bug of some kind?

Thanks! :D

Probably the stopwatch : Windows > animation > stopwatch and uncheck "metronome"

Update: I've tried the metronome, however it was already set off when I opened the panel. I've tried setting it on, then loading the track and setting it off, but nothing seems to work.

Any other recommendations?

Thanks! :D

Sound glitches

Post by David_Fine »

I was getting this problem occasionally in version 10.5, but now also in 11. When I load a .wav file, it plays in TVPaint with regular pops every 24 frames. Quite loud pops. The source .wav file has no pops. It will also repeat the last part of the audio. I try reloading the file and it doesn't help. I restart and sometimes that fixes it, but not always. When it happens, it's very annoying to work with, but it doesn't happen all the time. What is going on and how can this be fixed?

Just a guess, but check if your project FPS and your playback FPS are identical. This sounds like 24/25 FPS confusion.

Good thought, but they are both the same. Having said that, The project I am working on does not have that problem, so I will look for that next time it happens, in case something got changed by accident.

I am experiencing the same problem now. I hear a strange beat/click that is also visible in the sound panel.

here are some screenshots:

when I choose to reload all soundtracks, the volume of the click sounds actually changes :?

My soundfile is a mp3 44100 Hz. The sound in TVPaint is also set to 44100 Hz.

This issue started happening today and I did not hear any clicks yesterday.
Are there any news on this topic?

Edit: I converted the audio to a wav file and the clicks disappeared.

As you can see here TVPaint adds clicks to the mp3 but not to the wav file.

Hmmm, that's.. unsual.
From your signature I see that you are on MacOSX, but what version of TVPaint Animation do you use ? 32-bits ? 64-bits ?
If 32-bits, does the bug happen on the 64-bits ? (or vice-versa)

I'm using the 64bit version. I don't have the 32bit version so I cannot test it right now.

I saw this post earlier today on the TVP's Facebook page:
For our non-French users : due to holidays, from May 23rd to May 26th, technical support and email answers will be slower :)
Hopefully someone will see you post but I suspect they've gone on holiday for the long weekend.

I remember that it helped solve issues for me in the past when I used an mp3 instead of Wav. Don't know why, maybe because of filesize, but it might be worth converting you file. I believe you can use Audactity for that or perhaps any other audio software for mac.

There is always someone here to check the forum :)
But unfortunately, I don't have a Mac at home.

At the moment : we didn't reproduce the problem yet at TVPaint.
What could decrease the field of research in the code could be to know if it occurs on both 32 and 64 bits versions, since both are differently managed, especially on Mac.
