Hi there,
I'm trying to use the mask function and I'm having a problem.
I have a drawing of a bottle on the top layer.
Then I made an inverted mask on another layer that would block out everything outside the bottle.
Then I drew a picture of a face and put it on the layer above the mask.
Everything seemed to work fine, except I can only manipulate the part of the man in the bottle.
I'd like to be able to move him around within the bottle and have other parts of his face (which are currently masked out) show up from time to time.
If I turn the stencil setting off in the main panel, I'm able to move him around say to the right, but the original masked portion of his face doesn't show up. Also when I turn the stencil back on he is no longer contained in the bottle after moving him.
I just realized the mask has completely erased the other part of the man's face.
Is it possible to mask an area without erasing the artwork permanently, move the artwork, have masked areas show up and keep the artwork contained within the mask?
mask confusion
Re: mask confusion
Unfortunately we don't have something like a clipping mask similar to Photoshop. Some people have asked for it and maybe it will come in the future.
At this point you have to deactivate the stencil, animate the face sticking out of the bottle and then activate the stencil, select the frames of the face and erase the lines outside of the bottle.
It is not really a mask in TVPaint. It is more a stencil mode.

Re: mask confusion
I'm not sure if I fully understand your question, but I'll try to decipher what I think your saying.
You created a bottle and head on separate layers, you want the head to display inside the bottle and not outside of the bottle. If that is the case, it is very easy to mask using stencil. I don't know how to upload computer images on here, so I'm going to use online pictures as a demonstration.
Step 1: Pretend that the circle outline is in the shape of your bottle and stencil is turned on
At this point things will only show up in the parts you drew in, in this case the black outline, but if you did this
Step 2: Filled the bottle with a color or used the "Colo & Texture" Layer and filled it in that way and used that layer as a stencil
Then the filled color would be the only place you could show stuff in
As a result that is the way you could use a stencil as a mask, I hope that answered your question.

Re: mask confusion
I confirm it's in our TODO list though nothing is done at the moment (some stuff need to be done in the code before).furushil wrote:Unfortunately we don't have something like a clipping mask similar to Photoshop. Some people have asked for it and maybe it will come in the future.
