Today I'm playing with keyframes. What I'm trying to do is get a three frame boil of a cloud to travel across the screen. My three frame boil is set to loop. So I get the FX stack open and set my two keyframes, but when its applied it only effects the initial three frames and doesn't continue for the length of the time line. I'm guessing this means that you can't affect loop and only affect instances that exist. So I'll have to manually duplicate the loop or is there a way I can set the layer to become looped frames rather than the little icon command?

See the render tab in FX, that's where you set the pre and post behaviour, like in the timeline. Set post behaviour to loop and you're done.

Hard to see from the screenshot, but I think you forgot to create a layer to apply the FX to?

The keyframer needs one layer to work on, and another layer to copy from. Create an empty layer over the length of the scene, select it, and apply the FX there. (Take care to select the correct layer as source!)

Wow, that's peculiar. I guess it does that to stop degradation of the source image?
I've been using After Effects for the last 14 years so it's a bit of a brain jump to learn this new way of thinking.

It doesn't look strange to me. Imagine a setup where I want to do lots of clouds moving with different speeds, but all from the same source loop. Leaving the original loop intact is the only way to do so.
