I have four projects open and for some unknown reason, instead of being neatly on top of each other, they are floating and layered in a messy way. I do not know how this came to happen, but how do I get them all to line up nice again? Do I have to manually move and pull each one? How can I avoid this happening again? The picture shows the top of four projects all over each other in layers. Am I the only one who has these weird interface issues??

Looks like you are in Windows mode and each of the projects has a different zoom level? Press V should hide all but the active project.

V does nothing at all. Are you on a PC? It really is weird the way the windows get all messed up. It seems I can drag and resize them, but I wish they would just stay put.

Markus : V is not linked to "Windows mode / Hide remote" anymore for several years
David : there is a solution, but it's really hard to explain with words. I'm travelling in Paris today : I will record something, but I'm not sure I'll be able to upload it :s

Oh, that was easy...
Actually, here are the steps :
1) close all drawing space (but one)
2) when you remain 1 drawing space, double click on the top bar of the drawing space (the one you use the move the window) : it will maximize the drawing space
3) close this last drawing space
4) then click on tab at the top : all projects will re-open properly

Oops. Spoke to soon. This happened again. I open a scene and it is floating, smaller than it should be and with another scene visible behind it. I tried what you said and it did not work. Is it possible you could upload a video of you doing this on a Mac to show exactly how you were able to fix this problem? Moreover, any idea how and why this happens? Maybe there is a way to avoid it happening. It seems to come out of the blue. My fix is to painstakingly drag the edges to fit that screen again, but that is problematic because going to the edge makes the panels pop out, so it's rather hard to do.
