Adjusting clips in timeline view
Is there a way to adjust clips in the timeline view that don't effect the entire duration of the scene? Say I have nine clips in a scene and I want to slide clips 4 and 5 to adjust their timing but I don't want to effect the duration of the entire rest of the clip? Something akin to the Adobe Premier ripple edit or rolling edit tools? As I making my animatic I might notice where I want to add clips but then I have to readjust all the way down the line. Is there a way to just slide a clip's duration without effecting everything that comes after?
Re: Adjusting clips in timeline view
Unfortunately, there is no possibility to do any slide (or any fx) within the storyboard engine. If you are using première, you can publish your storyboard / animatic as an edl : it will export each clip separately and it will create a little file (.edl) that tells première to import vidéos in the good order

Merci Elodie,
That's a good work around. Is it then possible to reimport that Premier file back into TVPaint as clips with the corrected timing?

Oh wait. That won't work. Since it won't come back with all the layers that it originally had. Still I could adjust the time in Premier and emulate that back in TVPaint so it's still a good way to go. Thanks!

Okay. Not seeing .edl as one of my choices for export. Where do I find that? I'm running Pro 10.
Aha! After experimenting, I see if I export as a .mov file but "split scenes" in the dialogue box, it'll give me several .mov files all numbered in order. I can import all of those into Premier and edit there. That'll work!

Re: Adjusting clips in timeline view
Can't you just switch to the thumbnail view and sort the clips out there by opening the one to be expanded as a Timeline Project and then return to the Timeline storyboard view? I've never had the need to do this but it's something that I would look into first.

Use "publish" and not "export"vishvakarma wrote:Okay. Not seeing .edl as one of my choices for export. Where do I find that? I'm running Pro 10.

I'm storyboarding right now and i think that you can't time it correctly without being able to slide the moment when we cut from one clip to another.
It just means for me moving the out point of the first clip and the in point of the next clip the same number of frames to compensate (meaning that we can go negative in the next clip).
Because when we have sound there is no other way. You time the action and then you just want to move the cut. Or you work in one clip
I think it's possible to do a script but...

Yes, it would be great to have cliphandles that work exactly like the instance handles in the layers do:

Re: Adjusting clips in timeline view
Interesting idea
Re: Adjusting clips in timeline view
Although the idea seems logic, I think we have to play save here.
In a normal timeline (within a clip) I can at least see if the frames contain some artwork, so if I lengthen one instance I may erase another one, but at least I am aware of it, and can undo if necessary.
In the project timeline I don't have any visual indicator about this. If I legthen one clip and shorten another: which rules shall apply? I may erase existing animation without noticing.

Re: Adjusting clips in timeline view
In Project - timeline view, when you stretch the clip, you actually change the "mark out" point, without affecting instances in the clip. So, it could affect "mark in", without deleting instances.

Yes Elodie! I agree, thats how it should be done.Elodie wrote:In Project - timeline view, when you stretch the clip, you actually change the "mark out" point, without affecting instances in the clip. So, it could affect "mark in", without deleting instances.
But then those markers become more important and should be made more visible in the clip timeline
So to make it very clear where the clip actually starts being vivible in the project view... maybe the "Mark in/out" need to get a continuous vertical bar like the bookmarks.
or we need to grey out the part of the timeline outside of the marked range.

Re: Adjusting clips in timeline view
I made a temporary solution : http://forum.tvpaint.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9724" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But it's not perfect, especially because you have to always use Mark Outs and we don't have a shortcut to "activate it" in the script.
And it's not click and drag, you have to enter a number.
