Interesting New Mediaplayer, now available

Post by Peter Wassink »

Lucasfilm software engineer Darby Johnston’s free image-viewing and batch-processing tools for visual effects production work have just hit an official 1.0 release.

maybe mediaplayer is not the right word, but it will let you play different video formats and step through them frame by frame, in both directions.

have you tried this yourself, Peter? It doesn't seem all that simple to me -- I mean to use it just as another media player. It won't recognize any of the popular formats; namely mp4 and Avi. It looks like you have to first convert those to the native djv view, but I don't feel like playing with it anymore.

Interesting,
first converting defeats the purpose off course...
i didn't test it thoroughly yet but the couple of Avi's i tried all worked. mp4 i didn't try.

How did you load your AVIs? Under File I selected Open>Directory>Drives>D>MyProject>My AVI folder>MyAVI.avi
and I get: {ERROR} Unrecognized file: (and it shows the path I took).
Have you done anything differently?

I found the perfect movie viewer that steps both forward and back one frame perfectly... TVPaint!

As long as your projects are short, very short. Try that out with a 20 or 30 minute film -- or even a 7 minute film.
But in all seriousness, I've been pretty happy with PotPlayer, although stepping back frame by frame needs fussing with at times.

I stumbled over this thread while searching for something else and have to say THANK YOU A LOT Peter. DJV is exactly what I was searching for, such a great player.
