Brush Lag on Mac

Post by stephenleotti »

Hello, I have just recently purchased a Mac after having used Windows for many years. I have noticed a substantial amount of brush lag where there was none on Windows. If I check "OpenGL" it goes away, but it causes the computer to run extremely hard and I imagine that's not good for the hardware. Is there a way to eliminate as much of the lag as possible and still have the computer run at a reasonable rate? My machine is:

OSX v10.11.3
MacBook Pro
2.2 Intel Core i7
16gb Ram
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB

As you can see, my machine is pretty powerful, so it blows my mind that it can't run the software as well as my older machine did, which was half as good at least. Is there like a version upgrade I need or something?

Thanks

So they're working on some kind of fix for this OS version? Good to know. I've never tried updating the program before. Will I be notified when a new version is available?

After messing around with some settings, I've been able to get it to at least a workable place. It still runs a little hard when zoomed in a lot, but otherwise I've eliminated most of the lag by turning on openGL and checking "switch graphics performance" in the system preferences.

There is no update notification, but it seems the update will probably be available next week (as far as I know). You can either check the forum or use the menu in TVPaint (HELP >CHECK FOR UPDATES). On OS X you can also try to fullscreen the application. At least for me this makes the lag go away.

Thanks. I haven't noticed a difference between full screen mode. But it does go away in Windows mode. But I hate that mode so I'd like to avoid it.

Unfortunately not, but that should be improved in the future.

Cool. Do I have uninstall the old version to install the new version? I've downloaded the ZIP folder and it seems to open a disk image as if I was going to install a whole new application. On Windows, it would probably do it automatically, but I'm new to Mac so I'm not sure if it's the same.

On Mac you can copy the *.app file to your Applications folder. It will ask you if it should overwrite the old file, you can choose yes, since all your preferences are stored somewhere else.
