TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan in FullScreen Topic is solved
TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan in FullScreen
I hope that I'm not out of line for posting this question here. It was the topic of a previous thread, but dating back to Dec. 2015, and I wanted to see if there are any new insights.
The problem: I'm running TVP 11.0.3 Pro on Mac OS 10.11.5 (El Capitan), and every time that I close a project, TVP crashes and I get the crash notice. Elodie has been kind enough to do some diagnostics and has said that the developers will address this issue with the next software update, however, in the meantime, I can't save any brushes or express key shortcut settings - they all go away with each crash.
OS 10.11.5 is a very commonly used platform, so I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this issue, but figured out a possible fix, other than going back to an earlier OS version?
Thanks!

So far, I didn't heard about it elsewhere.
Can you try to uncheck the .tvpp compression the preferences ?

Hi Fabrice,
I just tried unchecking the tvpp compression several times, and each time it's still crashing when I quit TVP. Do you have any other thoughts about what it might be?

Are you running TVPaint in fullscreen mode? If so, try to minimize the window before closing TVPaint.
I also had this problem but the latest update fixed it for me.

That's good information to know. I haven't yet updated to El Capitan (and a new Mac OS is coming ... Sierra ... oh, goody ... what fresh hell will Apple unleash on us ?)furushil wrote:Are you running TVPaint in fullscreen mode? If so, try to minimize the window before closing TVPaint.

A lot of my students have the current El Capitan so this is very valuable for me to know that full-screen must be minimized before closing TVPaint . I have already advised students running TVPaint on El Capitan to work in full-screen mode if they are experiencing issues with TVPaint. But I don't recall knowing about the need to minimize the window before closing TVPaint to avoid crashing. Is this tip mentioned anywhere in the User Manual or in the TVPant Newsletter ? I assume it must have been mentioned at one point on one of the discussion threads about the problems with TVPaint running on Mac OS , but if it was I missed it . This seems to be such a vital piece of information , but how can the typical user know about this ? (most users do not regularly participate in this forum , or read every post even if they do occasionally visit here). This is so important it ought to be emailed to every TVPaint user in the database who has the MacOS version of TVPaint. I don't know if that's practical (?) , but maybe this important detail about the need to minimize full-screen before closing to avoid crashing could at least be mentioned prominently in the TVPaint Newsletter or a sticky topic here on the Tech Support forum.

Re: TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan
Furushil,
That absolutely solved the problem. Thank you! How did you ever figure out that minimizing the screen would keep it from crashing?
What I would like to know is why mine crashes (when I haven't minimized the screen), even though I'm running the same version of TVP as you, and on the same Mac OS version as you. This makes no sense to me.
I could live with this issue if I absolutely have to, but I can see there will be times when I forget to minimize the screen and the crash will once again wipe out my settings and brushes.

Re: TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan
Wow, thanks Furushil ! I didn't test it right now, but it seems totally accurate, for I have already experimented this issue (probably because I was in FS mode).
I'll add it to the to do list as soon as I arrive in the office.

I thought that this issues got addressed and fixed in the latest update. It means then that I was just lucky to not have it anymore

Ok, thanks. Actually, I did a test on my both sessions, and "sadly", FS mode did not make any crash. But anyway, that's something to keep in mind, thank you

Brace yourselves, new MacOS is coming...
Re: TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan
This is weird. The only difference between Furushil's set up and mine is that Furushil is using an Intuos 4 and I'm on a Cintiq. Otherwise, we're using the same things. Why would mine be crashing every single time when I'm shutting down in full-screen mode?

Re: TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan
Have you also uninstalled then reinstalled Wacom drivers ?
Re: TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan
I recently did an uninstall and new install of a new Wacom driver for the Cintiq, so yes, I have.
Perhaps I should try another uninstall and re-install?

Re: TVP 11.0.3 crashing with El Capitan
Elodie,
I just discovered that there is a new driver for my Cintiq that came out a couple of weeks ago. I uninstalled the previous driver and installed the new one, but am having the same issue with TVP crashing each time I quit it while in full screen mode. Ugh! This is frustrating!
Is it possible that there might be a corrupted file within my TVP 11.0.3 software? Does something like that ever happen?
