Updating issue (original v. 10.0.18)

Post by Chris Cormier »

Hi All,

I was having trouble with TVP 10.5 (it wouldn't run without restarting my machine), so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. I'm trying to update my 10.0.18 version, but the update file appears to be the full 10.5 version. Installing that on top of my 10.0.18 messed things up (including a hard crash). Uninstalling and installing the 10.5 file merely gave me the 10.0.18 version, and I'm now at a loss.

I suppose I could just run my old 10.0.18, but I might as well update it if possible. I imagine I'm doing something wrong in the process. I haven't done any real work in TVP for about a year, so I'm pretty rusty and unfamiliar. Any tips or help would be appreciated.

I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Chris,

What do you mean by "messed thinigs up" ?
I know you had a crash, but did some thing else happen ? Like an error message ?

Can you try to uninstall TVPaint completely, restart the computer, then install TVPaint 10.5.7 ?

Best,

When I uninstalled 10.0.18 and installed the 10.5 update file, it installed the full 10.0.18.

Is there not simply an update file? I don't recall having any problems with this years ago, but again, maybe I'm somehow doing something wrong in the process, or maybe the update file I'm getting directed to is the wrong file?

Chris, did you get the 10.5.7 installer from here? -- http://www.tvpaint.com/v2/content/artic ... update.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you downloaded the update file from that link it should install 10.5.7 for you , overwriting the previous version 10.0.18 (I don't know how it works on Windows, but on Mac it asks me if I want to replace (overwrite) the existing version when I install the update to my Applications folder . I click on Replace and it installs the new version .)

Yes, that's where I downloaded it from. If I remember right, the problem arose when Sentinel re-installed. Maybe I can stop Sentinel from re-installing, and it'll be fine?

I'll try again, but if anyone's got any other ideas, I'd love to hear them! I'll have to try later, but I'll share my results.

You probably should uninstall everything and run a virus checker. If a virus is found, you might have to reinstall windows. Just a thought.

Well, the install worked, but I'm back where I started, as I need to restart to run TVP every day. I'm guessing it's an OS issue, but I really don't want to re-install W7. Maybe eventually.

I appreciate the input, everybody. Thanks!

it's very odd.
Do you have AdobeCC installed ?
What if you start TVPaint from a different windows user account ?
