Exporting into After Effects

Post by JQuinn »

Hello TVPainters. I have a questions about exporting image sequences from TVP into AfterEffects. Is it possible to export all the values that have been used in TVP as well? Ie if a level was set at 80% opacity or multiplied etc. Is the only option to export a movie of each layer? Basically any advice of how to export from TVP into AE keeping the best quality possible and keeping all the TVP settings. Thank you Joanna

The best way (and probably exactly what you asking for) is Mads AE script.
If you need to bring a scene from TVPaint to AE you NEED this script. It's a custom panel for TVPaint with only one button, which will export a png sequence for each layer (only the actual keyframes to save space) and another script for After Effects, which will create a composition in After Effects, which looks exactly like your TVPaint scene, with all transparencies, blending modes etc.
Mads don't seem to be around here anymore, so if you got stuck anywhere feel free to ask me for help, I basically live in After Effects (somewhere near the preview button)

Perfect! Thanks so much! We will have a little play now. In your AE experience is it best to export the images as PNGs and not TIFFs from TVPaint? Aren't Tiffs better quality? Thanks so much for your help :)

TIFFs have some advantages over PNGs when it comes to print, but for video PNGs are as good as TIFFs, maybe even better (depends on the way you write the TIFF).
PNGs exported from TVPaint are always uncompressed (actually they're compressed, but more like a ZIP, no picture information is lost), so you just don't need to worry about it.

EDIT: How about sharing it with everybody Thierry?

Many thanks,

What I sent to Joanna at the time is now available in TVPaint 11.0.8
You can now export in JSON in the Export Panel > Clip Structure tab !

Hi,

When I used the export in the tab and tried to import it into AE. But it said there where no clipinfotext-file so I had to use Mads script to make it work.
