TVP can't save anywhere except my user folder

Post by MattVG »

Hello,

I recently installed TVPaint under Windows 8.1 on my Surface Pro 3, but it can't save files anywhere except my user folder. I've tried running it as administrator and a variety of other things, but it still insists that I "don't have permission to save in this location". I looked up how I might be able to fix permissions, but nothing helped. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks for the help,
Matt VG

EDIT:
Windows 8.1 64bit
16GB RAM
Intel Core i7-2600K CPU 3.40 GHZ 3.70 GHZ
TVPaint 11.0.6 Professional 64bit

Hello Matt,

Please read the [Read me first before posting a question] topic and answer these questions:
• What is your OS and its version :
- Mac OSX 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite)...
- Windows Vista, 7, 8, etc...
- Linux Ubuntu 10.04+, Debian 6+, RedHat Entreprise Linux 5+, Fedora 15+
• What is your OS architecture (32 or 64 bit) + CPU type and amount of RAM.

• What is your software version (for example : Mirage 1.5, TVPaint 9.5.21, TVPaint 10.0.11, etc...)

• What is your software edition (Standard or Professional)

• For the Professional Edition : What is the architecture (32 or 64 bit) ?

Thanks for the infos you added in your post.
Can you grab a screenshot of your export panel with the path you used to save/export ?

Here is what I have. This is just saving a blank project to the desktop, but the exact same thing happens when I save anywhere other than directly into my user folder. Exporting doesn't work either.

EDIT:
Here's my export panel since you mentioned it

There is no mistake or typo in the path itself.
Quite strange, we can't reproduce it on our Surface Pro 3.
What if you reinstall TVPaint on a fresh new user account ?

Hi Matthew,

Would it be possible for you to do a Teamviewer session ?
Send me a PM with your availability and I'll see what I can do.

Hello Thierry,

I've never used Teamviewer, but I'm available all day Saturday until 6PM (-5 GMT). I suspect the issue isn't with TVP, but rather something happened/changed with my Windows 8.1 install. I didn't change anything, so I don't know what it would have been.

Thank you for helping me out with this. I appreciate it.

EDIT:
Next week I'm available after 6PM (-5 GMT) on Monday and Tuesday
I'm available all day Thursday
Friday I'm available after 6pm (-5 GMT)

Doh! I just figured it out. Apparently my anti-virus software (Bit Defender) was blocking it without notifying me. I added TVPaint to the list of trusted applications and now I can save wherever I jolly well please.

Thanks for the update Matt!

I didn't thought of the antivirus when we did the Teamviewer session yesterday.
Anyway, that's good news :)
