FIXED.
I ended up deleting my config file, like kelanhordos suggested BUT first saved all my custom settings, as Dean said, and the crackle is 100% gone. Thank you all!

Good news ! I'm glad that creating a fresh config fixed it.

This "audio crackle" issue came up again when I loaded new audio and even affected the audio that HAD BEEN fine. I tossed out my config.ini, which fixed the issue, but frustrating just the same.

None of these steps worked for me, and every reference video I import on my Mac is distorting. No issues on PC, but can't use PC as I'm traveling.
