How did you animate with the flat colours. Draw a self coloured outline and fill it? This may sound like a daft question but when I tried this method I found it difficult to get a fill to the edges. Either I got some semi transparent gaps that only showed up on the back ground or my fill extended past my lines.....Could be my questionable line quality or choice of clean up brushes.

A big round of applause from me. I think TVP is a perfect match for you :D

P.S some lovely stuff on your blok too :D!
Did you use the "expand" and "range" options when using the fill tool ?

Yes. I did. In all probability I just needed a better line/stronger pen tool. I was just experimenting with a bitmap Illustration style rather than my current vector approach. No problem really, I'm just curious how other people approach it

Hey thanks :)
I'm feeling self-conscious about the result, but that's not unusual.

I am not sure if it was the smartest route to approach, I roughed it all with a pencil first, lowered the opacity of those layers, then put layers underneath and used the shape fill tool (smoothness set to 1.00) to fill in the colours. That way I could see where I was going.

Because it was quite limited movement in some places, I just held some drawings (eg: the legs) for a while on their own layer and animated what was moving on top of it. It shows, but I only gave myself a weekend to do it in. I'm sure with more time and care one could pass this off better.

No need to feel self concious. It's a big first step and more than I have done. I usually use TVP for baords and roughs but then 'artwork' in vectors: Xara, or Anime Studio. I'm currently going out of my way not to do any drawn animation at all as my current project will be in after effects. So. a certain amount of andmiration is due from this quater :-)

That is a sound technique. Pretty similar to how I Illustrate in vectors
'Soomthness to 1' - Do you mean the blur type smoothness on the filling shape panel or the line smoothing on the Shape settings?
I'm hoping the latter because I would dearly love that to work but it doesn't seem to for me. (though it does for un-closed lines)

I am thinking that maybe filling coloured lines might prove a little faster for painting longer animations? Others will be able to advise better on that one.

Thanks Mr Choy.

I mean this:

I think it's the second option you suggested? But it's the panel that changes from tool to tool anyway. The smoothing is very subtle, but I was surprised how much of a difference it makes from no smoothing at all. Maybe it helps to be working at a high resolution too (I work in 1920x1080).

Here is another TVP experiment in the form of a sort of e-card for my sister's birthday. I just keyed it in TVP though, did the post work in After Effects because I wanted to do a sort of spotlight/torch thing... which didn't work out to my expectations this time round. Next time however.....

Hello! I need to stop lurking. Here are some recent attempts... I'm still waiting for the day TVP takes over Photoshop as my preferred general art-making application. That's not far off I think, every time I like it more an more!

One question though... when exporting some files (I've encountered this with movies, jpgs and gifs), does anyone else get a 1 pixel line (usually black) at the bottom? Is there a reason for this? And hopefully a fix?? Thanks!

I did ! sometimes this 1 pix black line appears on the right edge as well ... and I've no idea how to get rid of it.
this issue may be reported in the Support section, don't you think so ?

btw, good work your '"little girl" key-animation. :)

Thanks ZigOtto! It was sort of a workflow test for a project I'm involved with, which we'll be doing in TVP.

Re: the black line. I was wondering if it was just me or not, and I'm not sure if it's reported, but I think I searched and didn't find an explanation. My current fix is just to quickly crop the image by 1px in Photoshop. Bleh!

With video codec this sometimes happens when the codec doesn't support odd number of pixels, then there is nothing to do about it, short of avoiding odd pixel numbers.

As for jpegs and gifs, this is a bug, please send us a file (.tvpp) that triggers this bug so we can investigate.

Deactivate "Correct Aspect" in the export panel and the black line will disappear.
