Black and white drawings have a built-in abstraction, the viewer will add own colors in her or his mind. Eg such a b/w drawing of a garden will drag the viewer into the flowers, trees and ivy.
On the other hand, many friends of mine like color compositions giving a scene a specific atmosphere, looks to me like they want to be guided.
But sometimes colors may lead to a shoddy design, I think that's what Paul meant.
I experimented with colors in this "Aunt/home - scene" to diversify.

To diversify makes a lot of sense to me and my oldest lesson in this direction was Yellow Submarine. Animated films can get quickly boring, unless there are milestones of surprise changes inserted in strategic places. They should be meaningful though and part of the story's progression; like chapter headings.

I love your art, Klaus,

And me too.

Here is a WIP, a test of the clip for the next page - inside the aunt's house. The aunt is offering "Schwarzwaelder Kirsch"-cake.
Later, with the continuing story, she will trying to part the young lovers and that's what I wanted to adumbrate.

Hmm... it tells me that a plugin is necessary to download and install before I can play your clip, which turns out to be QT, but FireFox is not making this available to me.

it plays fine here (with firefox), but without sound (if it has a soundtrack ...?)
I like this scene ... very rich and sensitive,
I like the squads of flies around the flypaper (... even without sound),
the only thing I would change is the aunt's incoming,
(left side in the empty space of the frame), it's a bit too abrupt to my eyes,
imo, 2 or 3 inbetweens are missing .
also, I think we should see her catching the 2 parts of cake more clearly
before she's sitting and pushing the 2 tea-plates on the table,
btw, how did you do the curtain animation floatting in the air,
... a stack of several warping fx ?

The editing bothers me slightly. I'd like to see a hold at the end of both cake scenes. The cuts unnecessarily rush the flow of an otherwise placid scene. The boy's rushed swing of his too short arm makes it look like a defected limb (unless that is what he has).

corrected so far:

Thank you both very much for the critics.
Raymond you're right the aunt was approaching too fast, almost slipping. I also corrected the editing, and made a complete new animation of the young man. Thanks you very much Paul, for the tips.
I think that the scene is only on the surface placid, - as "coffee and cake"-meetings are never about coffee and cake.

So much better indeed, although the cross dissolves might be a little too lengthy now. This is why I insist on having a soundtrack before I start anything -- a music track would tell you the exact length those dissolves should last.

To have (at least) a rhythm track is a great help and usually I work this way.
But since I can do the soundtrack by myself, with playing instruments
- it should be not too hard to get off tediousness.

Here are the last three pages of my WIP.
It will come out as an e-book (epub3). As this are preview-pages in pdf you can click on some images to activate the film-clips, but it is necessary to open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader (which is free).
After having reached her aunt's house, a lost destination for day trippers, her aunt is showing them their rooms for the night.

I have seen lots of ebooks on ebay with traders advertising that they have resell rights. Does this mean I can just buy their ebook and resell it on ebay with no comebacks? There dosen't appear to be copyrights on these cook ebooks and I;m wondering how some sellers can say that they have resell, does it mean they are the author of the ebook? please advise.

Klaus,
Would you mind elaborating a little on the subject of what goes into the trans-coding of formats in preparation of an e-book release? You seemed to have a good grasp of everything involved (re: my OT posts in another recent thread).
By the way, here is an OP-ED story from today's Times on the subject of the future of e-book reading, which directly correlates to your (and mine) efforts ....
