Sad news for the million users...
But a good point for us, especially when people are asking for "digital" licenses. Using a dongle is much safer !

I get odd jobs here and there and apply for small grants to do my own short films and work part time in hospitality to support myself. I use Adobe Creative Cloud because I can purchase it on a month to month basis to use when I get animation work. If I get a $3000 dollar grant to do a 3 to 5 minute film and have to fork out $700 Australian dollars upfront just for the animation software (not including editing software), I'm left with $2300 to cover basic living costs of a project that will take me a minimum of 3 months. With Adobe I would pay less than half that and that would include video editing software and anything else I would need for production. The only reason I am bothering to raise this issue is I have used TVPaint and think it's a far superior program for 2D animation but its grossly overpriced and therefore fails to compete with Adobe.
But you buy it once - pay only about 500 Euros for the standard version, and have it for life! No need to worry about expiring subscriptions all the time. TVPaint is one of the most extraordinary pieces of animation software and is one of the few, that actually is worth the money.

I think that is
WHY they, and a couple of other big software companies, are going the subscription route. They, and their customers likely, are well aware of this lack of spectacularity.
When you consider what you can
do with the TVPaint Pro, and the license is permanent, the price is actually extremely low. You're getting an incredible use value for a comparatively small amount of cash.

Thank you also for your message, Terrence.
Some people still complains about TVPaint's price (not that much, but you can never satisfy everybody). So, it's always nice for us to read that our software has a fair price
