Well... it sure is possible to have it center on the drawing screen. I use other software that have no problem with this. This is a TVPaint issue because it's not using 'normal' floating windows. Instead you have this big window, you don't always have to give up things to have things. Sometimes it's just bad design choices.

If TVPaint would use floating windows instead of the current panels. You could go full screen and drag the navigator panel to the second screen. Now I can't drag anything to the second screen, unless I drag my main window really big (not the same as full screen) and lose other functionality.

The issue is with OS X, not TVPaint. The OS should be preventing you from saving a file with / in it. You can't do it on Linux, for instance (which also uses the Unix convention of / for path separators). A little research shows that OS X encodes internally the / as :, which is allowable for POSIX paths (Unix, OS X, Linux, etc), but Finder may show it as /. If you opened a terminal and listed the files, it should show as : in the filename.

It's worse than that :)
Apple histprically used the ':' as the path separator.
And guess what, you can't use ':' in file names, though the underlying system allows it...

I'm sure you guys are right.

Personally I really don't care about the underlying system.

I just want everything I see to make sense.

And as I said, I don't care about the slash, I care about TVPaint being stubborn piece of software. The slash works fine in any other software, because that's how the OS works. And TVPaint just pretends the OS doesn't exist.

* There's still an option to use a TVPaint file requester.
* "Cmd + ," doesn't bring up preferences
* More confusing shortcuts ignoring the default ways of doing things
* By default there's a double File Edit View etc. menu
* this:

...and more.

Sorry for bringing up the slash. I won't ever use a slash again in a file or folder and I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with is the need of keeping things the same on all operating systems that's clearly in the way of progress.

Well then ... just don't use it?

When I was working in that web agency there was a strict policy about acceptable file names, because files created on Win or Mac ended up on web servers run on Linux or Unix. There was a naming scheme for each project, and the only acceptable characters where a-z, 1-0, and _. No spaces, nothing else. I don't see why this shouldn't work in an animation company as well.

You're right. It's a good practice not to use weird characters in file names. I won't ever use the slash again, I promise ;)

Yes, that's exactly it, HFS used : path separator, so / was safe. POSIX uses /, so : is safe. Everyone except Windows uses / these days :-)

Well, I can't see how mimicking apple, windows or linux can be called progress ?
Progress is when you come up with something new.
And NO, I'm not saying the current TVPaint GUI is a progress towards those, but mimicking them isn't either.
And it would cost a lot of development time that would not go into making progress at the new features of TVPaint.
Basically, for each major release, expect *some* better integration with the OSes, but don't expect TVPaint to ever get "fully compliant" with any.

By the way, the animator market is WAY smaller (huh, maybe 1000 times smaller ?) than the photographer/ad agency/whoever else uses Photoshop.
Which means our income, and thus development team, is that much smaller than Adobe's.
And do you remember how long it took Adobe to get Photoshop working on intel Macs ? IIRC it was more than 3 years...

And even then, all windows systemcalls taking a path as input accept '/' as separator, and convert it silently to '\', so you can't use a '/' anyway.

I fully understand that and that's fine. But with some things, like the ability to use full screen with panels on the other monitors, would actually be a lovely new TVPaint feature (even if it's actually mimicking the OS). :)
