I thought embedding a custom panel was only in version 11. Can this be done in version 10.5.7? I should have 11 very soon, mind you.

By the way, it happens no matter what kind of brush I am saving. It's not to do with the brush. Could be the most simple brush on one panel. Just one brush and when I go to export TVPX file, the whole program crashes immediately. Everything unsaved is lost.

Having said that about embedding being a fix, it is not really because I still will need to export a panel so that it can be shared with other users, so I do need a fix, but maybe 11 will be that fix.

WAIT, I can see that there is a menu item when you right click on the panel to embed it, so that's good, but I still need to be able to export the brush to share with other users, so this crashing is still killing me!

NEW INFO: I notice that when I open TVPaint, panels that were there before reappear. If I change or add a brush to one of those panels, then go to export tvpx, the save path is already there. I select OK, and it saves without crashing. If, however, I make a new panel, or load an existing panel which was not already loaded, then go to export tvpx, the save path is not there. When I choose the path and then hit OK, it crashes. Not sure what this tells us, but there is at least a distinction which causes this crash. Hope that helps.

Right click on the panel > Embedded in project.

David, about those crashes: since it's not happening to anyone else I really think you should consider opening a new configuration. You won't loose the current one and can always go back to it, but a new configuration gives you a pretty good chance that you won't be getting those crashes anymore. There's nothing to loose by trying it.

I agree with Paul, using a new configuration could be helpful.

Well, I assume that everyone has those backed up somewhere on a HD, but yes, it does mean uploading them back again and placing them in their optimal places. For that purpose I once made a screen print of my GUI to make it easier to arrange all the boxes and now, with 11 it's easy to bring the screen print's JPEG into the Library to look at.

I tried a new configuration and it crashed exactly the same way it did before. As soon as I hit OK on the panel export. It does not crash when I export a panel which has been exported before. That is, that it has a name and save path already defined.

Bummer. Perhaps someone with a Mac will be willing to test this.

I would test it, but could you tell me exactly what to test, cause I lost the plot some pages ago.

Hi David,

Can you send me a crash log ?
They are located in /Users/username/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports and are named TVP Animation 10 Pro-Year-Month-Day-Hour-Minute-Seconds_ComputerName.crash.

This would help us track the issue

Edit : I didn't see that you already sent us one log. We'll look into it and see what causes the crash

Thierry has figured it out!! YAY THIERRY! The crash happens when the field "unique name" is left blank. Since I have no clue what the purpose of that field is, I didn't bother filling it in. This causes a crash, for some reason. Put anything in there and it does not crash. This leads me to the question as to why there are four full names to give a panel. Why so many?? Why not just one panel name? Here are the four panel names:

1. The name you give the panel in the edit panel of the panel
2. The "Unique Name" in the Export dialogue.
3. The "Name" in the Export dialogue.
4. The name you give the file in the Save To path. That is, the actual file name that is saved to disk.

So, a few explanations about the different names :

In TVPaint 11 "Unique Name" has been renamed into "Identification number", which is more accurate. This "Identification number" is only seen by you (when someone install a panel, it does not appear)
Here's an example : let's say that you make a panel containing a few brushes, you export it and share it on the forum. You give it the identification number "D_Fine_Brushes", and the name "David's Awesome Brushes 1.0"

Several weeks later, you decide to add a few brushes. So you add the brushes in your panel, and when you export it, you keep the identification "D_Fine_Brushes", and as you have added something, you name it "David's Awesome Brushes 1.1".
So, when someone will download the panel and install it, here's what will happen : TVPaint will look if an existing panel has the same identification number, and if it founds one, it will consider that we are installing an update.

4. The name you give the file in the Save To path. That is, the actual file name that is saved to disk.

Sometimes, the name of the tvpx file should not be the same as the panel's name. For example, in our case of "David's Awesome Brushes 1.0", having apostrophes in a file name is not really recommanded (and some OS don't allow apostrophes in file names)...

I agree that this can be confusing, and there is certainly something that we need to do here to make this more understandable.
