Posts like this bother me because of the assumption that because Photoshop does things a certain way, and Photoshop has millions of users, everyone should follow them. I, personally, hate the way Photoshop does things, and have hated working with it for 20 years, or so. (in some studios you have no choice) I chose TVPaint years ago because it was better, easier and faster to get great results than Photoshop and AE combined. When I came across Aura, I dropped PS and AE and never looked back, except as required in some studio work. They never sat on my own computer again.

Anyone working int the field today worth their grit will tell you that TVPaint has it's strenghts and Photoshop and/or After Effects has other ones which are just as valuable, often even preferable, when working under pressure.
For example, TVPaint's camera's (both in the FX stack and the Main Panel) are just unworkable when it comes to subtle and multiple camera movements. I just hate it when people on this forum keep denying that! Much easier to then migrate your project to AE.
Where I come from posts like your's, Artfx, is what we call 'staring at you own belly button'

If you like to work in Photoshop or in TVPaint depends what you trying to do, maybe it's also a bit a taste decision. But you can't compare After Effects to TVPaint, what is often the case in this forum.
TVPaint is a software to do hand drawn animation and After Effects is a compositing software, in which you can animate with keyframes. If you like to do character animation you can only use it to animate cutout-animation.
But as Sewie stated it's great in combination with TVPaint, to do camera movements, color changes, visual effects etc. Especially since it uses a non-destructive workflow, something which wouldn't make sense in TVPaint, cause it would be extremly slow and impossible to animate with it anymore.
You should see it as a tool you can use WITH TVPaint (if you like to), not as something you would use INSTEAD of TVPaint.

I have no idea what staring at my belly button means, but as far as I am concerned, Photoshop and After Effects only have strengths valuable for work wholly unrelated to what I do. They are of no use. When I worked in film I chose Combustion and Fusion over AE, not that any studio I worked in consider AE useful anyway, and today I would choose Nuke over them all. If someone is doing different work, for which Photoshop or AE are suited, that's great for them. They add no value to my workflow.
I never had a problem with the TVPaint camera or keyframer. Open up the progress profile, stretch it really large, you can have as much control over your camera as you like. Use them both together even. So, yes, I am going to deny that TVPaint's camera is unworkable for subtle or multiple moves. Calling it unworkable when others are using it begins to sound like a problem not with the software, but between the keyboard and the chair.
