Another matter to bring to your attention: it appears that Flip Book + Out of Pegs is not working when the Light Table is in Image Mark mode. Otherwise, it appears to work.
I have also experienced a crash when using the "previous tool" icon in the Main Panel.

Another issue;
I have trouble with the Save Alarm. The snooze doesn't work which forces you to save your file, instead of 'save as' even if you don't want to. And once it is turned on I cant turn it of. I can uncheck it in the preference panel but when I close and restart TVP the Save Alarm is turned on again.

And the next;
In the Preview Settings Panel, the new option "Timing Warning" turns itself off when I exit and restart TVP. Is that normal? I'd rather have it keep the setting if I restart or go to another file. And I have a feeling that it doesn't work properly (the proxy bar stays gray) unless I turn on Background Proxy Render or Force Proxy Render. I'd be much better if you can get the Timing Warning working in a way that it is not linked to, or dependable on, the Proxies.

And;
My custombrushes, which I keep in a custompanel, get reset after I restart TVP. So when I change a custombrush in one of my custompanels and save the change (through the dropdown 'Grab current tool with colors') it works for as long as I don't close TVP. When I restart, the changes are all gone and I have the old custompanel back. Meaning I have to export my custompanel every time I quit and re-import it again every time I restart TVP. This is a very annoying bug.

Are you aware of this? I have a feeling the problem is linked to the changes in the TVPX functionality.

I have never had this problem and use the custom made buttons the same way as you do; every time I make a small change in my pencil I resave it as Grab current tool with colors, keep icon. This has never failed me. To make sure, I just created a new test TVPX, created a pencil, saved on my HD, then changed my pencil's thickness, grabbed for keeps, closed TVP, opened TVP and nothing has changed.

I just checked it again and did exactly what you described above and problem is absolutely there. It's a very different behaviour from previous versions.

I suppose someone who has exactly your version, the mistakenly released public version, should test this. Are there any takers?

I think I need to reset my configuration. I just tried it and that seemed to solve the problem. But I don't think I will. I'm back on the previous version because I need to work and I'm losing too much time with this. See if you can wake up the beta-team to help you solve this.

Paul is a beta-tester and so, he use a beta version of TVPaint Animation BUT at this moment, the beta version and this public release version are nearly the same.
If nothing is saved after you close TVPaint Animation, can you check what is the option in the "Preferences" panel > "Startup" tab > "Startup configuration" popup ?

Huh ? That's weird. If you go to your Preferences > Startup = which Startup configuration are you using ?

Well, usually, we always proceed in that way : we release a fixed - beta version for the beta testers (like Paul) first and if everything seems good, we release it for everybody else. But as you said, beta-testers are a little... sleepy these last days...

Don't think the beta version is a BETTER version of TVPaint.
Sure, beta-testers get the new features some time before public release, but then, these features are usually buggy, the UI gets much improvement thanks to their suggestions, etc...
If TVPaint has very few bugs (OK, not this one...), that's because the beta-testers ironed most of them out before public release.
This is vacation time and this version didn't get as much beta-testing as usual.

On the plus side, you get a felling of the beta-testers work, this is what they endure with almost every beta-release :)

It's a configuration which I set up on a previous version of TVP, it has my custompanels and more setting (keyboard etc) that I put in.
When I press ctr+alt while opening TVP I get a new (fresh?) configuration where I don't have the same problems with the custompanels. A trick I picked up from you in some other thread.

Since I am not beta-tester but I am putting the time in to help you find these bugs, the least you can do is let me know when you've located and fixed them instead of letting me muddle on. I don't have much information about what's going on behind scenes of these alpha's and beta's so I think it is not a good construction to let the forummembers, who are just paying customers, deal with releases that are this troublesome. I came to realise that yesterday after Paul's comment.

I also feel that these early release should come with a warning that they can be a bit unstable. And I strongly feel that the beta-testers (and developpers) have a responsibility to do the thorough testing of these early releases. That is why they were selected, I expect. It's not good manners to let the paying customers deal with what, in fact, is the beta testers job. Vacation or no vacation.

You didn't answer my question : Which startup configuration are you using ?

Excerpt from the future user guide :

* “Remember last used configuration” will keep all changes you made in the interface of TVPaint Animation. Be careful, you must close the software correctly to save your choices.
* “Keep always the same configuration” is very useful for schools and training centers where students must keep a default interface. Whatever how many changes you'll bring, each time you will re-open the software, you will keep the interface by default.
* “Open Startup Panel” : It is possible to open the startup panel when the software starts. See further to have more information about this panel.
* “Template” : It is possible to use a template. When this option is selected, a second popup appears to be able to select what template will be chosen.
* At least, “Open last used project at startup” will open the last project you used with TVPaint Animation.

So, if you were using Keep always the same configuration, it's normal that you lose any additional configuration when you restart TVPaint, because this mode allow you to define a configuration that will never change.

And if you create a new interface, by default it uses the "Remember last used configuration" mode...

Once again, the 10.5 is a free update that we released for loyal forum members ONLY.
I feel like I spent the last 3 days to repeat the same sentence while it looks obvious for me : this version is an avant-première, just to reward the forum members and let them the opportunity to say "I could test the 10.5 before other people". Many other software or video games industries do in the same way and usually, the chosen users / gamers are happy to have this opportunity, even if what they test is full of bug.

I feel this experience of pre-releasing "to please our loyal TVPaint users on the forum" will be the first and the last one. Since now, nobody but beta testers should have the opportunity to test the pre-released versions.

That is why they were selected, I expect. It's not good manners to let the paying customers deal with what, in fact, is the beta testers job.

Beta-testers are not paid for the job they do. Everything is done on their free time, all year long, as volunteers.
We cannot prevent them to take some holidays, we are not their employers (even if - I agree - it would have been nice to be aware of their vacation time in order to avoid this disaster).

By the way, Sewie, I think TVPaint Développement always did (and will always do) its best to provide a good and stable software. We are always reading and listening our users' needs (and the more we spend to answer you on the forum the less we have time for the software itself, development, sales and various support). Ok, the quality of the 10.5 is not as good as it is usual, but is one mistake deserves such an anger against us and beta testers ? I don't think so.

Thank you Neonnoodle, it's nice to read this kind of feedback too, even if this 10.5 is not as perfect as it would had to be. =)

Ok, I pressed an 'alt' too many. But it worked, it opened a new/standard/empty config which was my intention.

Many other software or video games industries do in the same way and usually, the chosen users / gamers are happy to have this opportunity, even if what they test is full of bug.

But TVPaint isn't a game, is it? It is professional software that many of us depend on to meet important deadlines with. If it is faulty it can make our professional lives very difficult. That's why I feel a warning would be have been in order.

I don't doubt that the eventual release will be stable. This one is not stable enough to work with without getting frustrated, I had to find out. And I don't hate beta-testers. But if they take on the job of a beta-tester, whatever the perks are or are not, they should do the job. They are the only ones who really can, is my point; they are on in the inside, best informed and have a better overview and understanding of where the software, development-wise, is.
