Cursor display missing

I just discovered. I always set my eraser to be a red pen, set on erase. That way, when I use it with the rocker button on the pen, it changes to a red blob, which is a nice visual to tell me that I am using the eraser and also the size of it. (That was a tip from Paul F.) I just noticed that the erase no longer shows the red colour circle, just the point (I have it set to point). Now I can't tell the size of the eraser, which makes careful erasing more difficult. How did this change?
I then went to preferences to try changing from the point to circle to see if that would help, but instead of getting a circle, I get the arrow pointer. The same arrow pointer I get which I have been writing about earlier and which I have to restart the computer to go back to the point. In this case though, when I go back to prefs and change from circle to point, the arrow does change back to the point. Any idea how to get the eraser to preview the red pen, as it used to?

the preview of the tool and the cursor itself are two separated things.

David,
When your brush is set to Pressure, the default size (with zero pressure) won't display the brush's full size. On the other hand, If your brush is set to Constant, the default size is the full size of the brush but you lose the Pressure option to interactively scale your brush.
A compromise that lets you see your actual full brush size AND still have Pressure operational is a little trick you can do with the brush's Profile Editor as explained
HERE.

Oh wow, that is perfect! Thank you.
So here is a suggestion for developers (which I may have made before) have the cursor show the size exactly like this even when it is set to Pressure. That would be really, really helpful and I suspect very easy to change. (He says, like he has a clue about how easy stuff is to change!) One more thing. Even using this fix, the size shows, but not as you draw. As soon as you press down, the pen size indication disappears. It would be great if it stayed there as you draw. I know I asked about this before. Being able to see the size of the pen you are using, whether erasing or drawing, is a really important visual, at least to me. Is it just me that finds this useful? Photoshop does this, by the way.

well, we looked at it some months ago, even maybe before the v11.
There are two issue :
- If you use "Pressure" as a connexion, we can only show the outline of max size of the brush (like photoshop, but some people will find this strange, so it needs to be an option).
- Also, you might have problem when you set a parameter connexion to "random".
That said, the biggest issue we encountered is that with the current paint engine, such a process would slow down TVPaint (displaying a HUD of the outline of the brush at the same time as doing the painting itself)
At the end, we found that it's maybe possible, but admitting we succeed, it won't be easy at all and many things needs to be changed.
So we decided to report this development for a future big version.

Good explanation. Thanks. Having it as an option is ideal, but if it impacts on performance, that could be an issue.
