Which layer?

Is there an easy way to find out which layer some art is on? If i have a scene with 20 layers and I see some blemish on screen, I have to go through selecting each layer one at a time, turning each off and on to see where that blemish is. In Photoshop, I can auto select so that the pixel I touch automatically selects the layer it's on. Any such thing in TVPaint for finding the layer like that?

There is: you can assign a shortcut to "Layer > Pick layer". (for some reason you can only find it in the Keyboard Shortcuts panel) When you press the shortcut, just click on the artwork and it'll take you to the right layer.

Nope, you can also find it in the Handy panel.
By default, the shortcut is [,]

Not quite the same thing but if you got lost in your layers, there's a useful option called "shake" (keyboard shortcut is in the 'zoom' list).

The shortcut by default for this option is [a]. And of course, there is also [=], which displays the current layer only

Shake is useful to show you which layer you are on, but the pick finds the layer when you are not sure where the artwork is. I know, why would I not know where the artwork is, but it happens when there is a blemish or line where it shouldn't be.

So I was using the Pick Layer tool to quickly find which layer something is on by selecting that tool and then clicking on the pixels. Suddenly, it just stopped working completely. The shortcut I set up was to use the letter H. It is still in my shortcut list, but it does absolutely nothing and no longer works. Any ideas why?

The pick up layer "won't work" if the layer that is detected is already the current one.

TVPaint crashed and now, after restarting, it works again, so must have been related to whatever caused it to crash. However now, I just got that cursor problem changing to the arrow. Actually hasn't happened for a while, so now I have to restart my whole computer to solve it. Have you had any luck in tracking this thing down?
