multi monitors on Mac

After a few years of using TVPaint on my Cintiq with the Cintiq as the main monitor , I decided that even with arranging my 'Rooms' a certain way for maximum efficiency, that I would really like to go back to the way I used to have it with TVPaint stretched over two monitors from left to right , so I have my Macbook Pro on the left > to > Cintiq on the right . (I have Macbook Pro Retina , 15-inch, mid-2015 , Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan, with Cintiq 21 UX , Wacom Driver version 6.3.15-2 .)

I am able to stretch it out over the two monitors (Macbook Pro screen and Cintiq) if I go into System Preferences > Mission Control and uncheck the preference in MC that says 'Displays have separate spaces' . When I quit TVPaint and then restart TVPaint it "remembers" the previous arrangement , so it re-opens with TVPaint spread out over the two screens. I saved that as a new configuration called "David Cintiq Setup" .

Ok, so far , so good.

Now here is the problem: sometimes when I am away from home (go out to work in a coffee shop , traveling , etc. ) I use TVPaint on my Macbook Pro with a Wacom Intuos Pro. So for that single-screen set up I made another configuration called 'David Macbook" , with TVPaint arranged for a single screen. The problem occurs when I've used the single-screen configuration, but I go back to using the Cintiq and I open TVPaint with my "David Cintiq Setup" configuration, it does not open with TVPaint stretched over the two monitors, but only on the one monitor (Cintiq) with everything "squished" together , so I have to drag everything out again to cover the two monitors. Also, I notice that once I have used the single-screen "David Macbook" set up one time , that even after I have switched to the double-screen "David Cintiq Setup" and dragged everything back to where it's supposed to be for the double-screen setup , it doesn't remember this arrangement , so every time after I have to manually re-set it .

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening ? I had hoped with having two different configuration that I would be able to switch back and forth between the setups , depending on whether I was using the Macbook with the Cintiq as dual-monitors, or the Macbook alone with the Intuos tablet .

I'm actually suprised that the config with the interface stretched on 2 screens will be saved when you quit TVpaint. So far, I thought it was still "reseted" to 1 monitor.

I'll give this a try tomorrow.

Things are still as I remembered : on Mac, TVPaint is unable to remember its position on 2 monitors when you quit it.

Ok, thanks for confirming.

That's odd that when I first went back to using two monitors that it was able to remember the position stretched over two monitors (Macbook Pro + Cintiq), but only after I had disconnected the Cintiq and used the Macbook Pro alone with my Intuos tablet , then reconnected the Cintiq , it would not remember it's position on the 2 monitor set up .

I know this has been discussed before , but I can't remember the details : is there any idea WHY this happens on Mac ? Can it eventually be fixed or does that all depend on Apple ?

There is probably something that can be done on our side, but honestly, it's not considered as a major issue (we have other priorities at the moment).
Ok, it's annoying, but it does not affect the stability or the use of TVPaint.

The other issue related to this is that TVPaint does not "remember" it's previous position to open on the Cintiq screen . Every other program I use (Photoshop, ArtRage, Digicel Flipbook internet browsers , etc. ) remembers it was on the Cintiq screen and re-opens on the Cintiq every time. TVPaint does not remember it's previous position on the Cintiq display and it re-opens on my main display (Macbook) , which requires dragging it over and resizing it to the Cintiq.
it does not affect the stability or the use of TVPaint.
Well , I guess that depends on your point of view ... I suppose it is accurate to say that it doesn't affect the stability of using TVPaint AFTER it has been opened and then dragged over and re-sized to the Cintiq screen, but the fact that TVPaint is the only application (that I know of) which has this problem means that I must disagree with your statement that this does not affect "the use of TVPaint" .

I understand you get annoyed with the resize of the interface, but you are among the few persons here who know what we are dealing with in development : I would have hoped a little more tolerance and patience from you.
I just said the issue was not a priority, but I didn't say we would not fix it later.

Yay! Thank you! (and my apologies to Elodie if my previous post came off as "grouchy" ... did not intend for it to be that way.)

No offense taken David, don't worry !
(I do understand the issue annoys you : I also have to deal with it for a long time, even if my annoyance is quite less important than yours, for I don't have deadlines)

I understand you don't want to talk about it, but I'm sooooooo curious what the next update will include and when it will be available.

It will be mostly bugfix.

Oh really? That's kind of disappointing after such a long waiting period.

Some developpers works on long term development (upgrades, new versions, ...) , some others on bugfix and updates.
Anyway, there should be more updates in 2017 than in 2016.

As far as I have been able to test TVPaint does remember dual screen layouts as long as you do not stretch the interface border all the way to the edge of the display. Once I left about 1/8" all the way around it has not forgotten. I am just experimenting with the trial and have had it installed for a few days.

I do not know whether this effects a Cintiq but you might experiment with the idea of 1/8" space around the perimeter.
