TV Paint freezes/crashes after waking computer up from sleep

I animate on a laptop, and every time I take a break, I put the screen down and set it aside. This puts the laptop to sleep. Upon opening the laptop up again and logging into windows, TVPaint freezes and becomes unresponsive. I am unable to resume work and have to completely restart the program. Any idea why this may be happening or how I can fix this problem?
