Hello, I am just getting started with animation and my question is does TVPaint software retain copyright ownership of any content that is made using its software or does the author/artist retain all rights over their work?? Any help would be appreciated !

Funny question.
of course you have 100% ownership of your own work.
does Windsor and Newton put claims on the work of a painter?

I don't see how it could be any different with software, which could be seen as the same thing: a tool/material in which to make art.

That said.... if someone should work with an illegal version, then things lie a bit different.
Then you CAN expect a lawsuit, or even worse.... a curse!

but to be serious.
i think in some cases its the owner of the software that you work on, who can make a claim...
not sure what the boundaries are here, and conditions likely vary from place to place and country to country.
But for instance some companies and schools state that work made under their roof (or on their premises/hardware/software) belongs to them...

Okay that makes sense, thanks for the response ! Would you happen to know the rules surrounding this question if I were to purchase and use TVPaint Animation Advanced software in particular?? If anyone knows this I'm in Canada if that makes a difference. I just have some novel ideas that I'd like to have the rights for once complete :p

Does Adobe own rights to any image created in PS? No. Same is true to any other imaging or painting software.

Just to give an "official" answer: Peter is right, your work is your own :)
