Tvpaint crashes a lot while saving

Hi,

I'm using TVPaint 10.5.7 (32bit, since I always have problems with the 64bit version) on my Mac (OS10.14.16 Mojave), and a lot of times it crashes when I'm trying to use the "save as" function.
Most of the time after I played a preview of my animation.

I'm afraid to update my computer because of the possibility that the 32bit version wouldn't work anymore, and I don't want to upgrade to TVPaint 11 because I prefer TVPaint 10.

Any other solutions?

I'm using the same TVP version, and mine doesn't crash (well, nearly).
- Is there enough free disc space?
- Is this an external or internal drive?
- Which other processes run on that machine?

Hello Joost,

The 64-bits version of TVPaint 10 doesn't work on Mojave, so you can't use it to save your project.
So I'm afraid that there isn't a lot of solutions, except either upgrading to TVpaint 11 or using a Mac that doesn't have Mojave, if you're set on using a Mac.

To add on what slowtiger said, what are your projects' dimensions?
I don't want to upgrade to TVPaint 11 because I prefer TVPaint 10.
Just for curiosity, what do you prefer in TVPaint 10?

Thanks for your reaction. Do you use the same version of Mojave?
It started when using this update.

Answers:
-more then enough free disk space.
-Saving on a server
-Nothing special, nothing that my computer can't handle.

It doesn't crash when I'm saving, only when I'm using the "save as" function. (and I use this a lot)

1920*1080.
It has always worked fine. Until the last couple of months. It started crashing a lot. Not always, but a couple of times a week. I noticed that it helps when I press escape a lot after previewing, before saving

I haven't used TVPaint 11 for a while now, so I don't remember exactly why I liked it less. But one thing I do remember is that I can't make a keyboard shortcut for "new anim layer", I can't select the frames I would like to render in the layer itself, and some keyboard shortcuts where not available....

Thanks for the details!
I might have a idea on why it happens.

There's probably a conflict when TVPaint tries to access the filepath on the server.
I'm pretty sure that if the file was saved on the disk, the crashes would not be happening.
Which OS is running on the server, and if possible, can you post a screenshot of what the path looks like on the TVPaint window?

The bug you're encountering looks very, very similar to a bug that we fixed in v11.0.8.

On TVPaint 11, using Ctrl+N creates a new Anim Layer, and you can change the shortcut if you want:
shortcut-newlayer.PNG
shortcut-newlayer.PNG (16.06 KiB) Viewed 12662 times
and some keyboard shortcuts where not available....
If you remember, which shortcuts were not there?

Thanks Thierry,

Maybe I should check out the latest trial of TVPaint 11.
It might be worth while upgrading now.

One of the reasons why I didn't upgrade to 11 is that I mostly make use of the basic functions of TVPAint.
And in my opinion the difference between 10.5 and 11 is very little.
