I'm setting multi-backup always...

I found that my the backup file is not updated,
when the tvpp file is approximately above 2.1gb, like 45gb,14gb,6gb,4.5gb... etc
The backuped file is always under the size of 2gb(and It means It's previous backup file, before the original file hit the 2gb).
even if I save my current file again with size of above 4.5gb(for example), there is no change on backuped file.

Can somebody check it? I mean Is this occurs in your tv paint too?

I think It worked in june and more previous days with larger size,
because I checked it works even in 45gb first time, and I have other files above 4gb used multibackup on date of june.

Please tell us on which version it happens, and which OS

Tvp version - TVPaint pro v11.5, 64bit
my OS - windows 10, 64bit
wacom tablet driver - 6.3.41-1

I think It worked in june and more previous days with larger size,

So, in June it was not TVPaint 11.5. Meaning that there might be a regression.

Can you tell the filesystem of the drive where the multi-backup is saved ? (probably Fat32 or NTFS)

Could you please try with TVPaint 11.0.10 ?

I saw download page, but seems I can not download it.

at that time I bought TVP first, recent version was 11.0.8,
so my CD has setup file of v11.0.8, so I tested it.
and also It ouccured in v11.0.8

wait, I'll check it from other PC too.

I checked it on my tablet.
It's windows10 64bit, tvp pro 11.0.8.

The same thing occurs.
and I found something, that occured always, but I didn't realized.

when I save tvpp already saved, tvp doesn't ask me where I want to save,

but when the tvpp file hit large size above 2.1gb,
It ask me the location to save,
even if it already has saved location & even if I used "Save", not "Save as"

also, in this cace,
"Save alarm" function, which is set by "Auto save", ask me the location to save....

I think it seems tvp recognize "saved file" and "will be saved file above 2.1gb" as not equal,
even if these have same name.
Thus,

• curent tvpp file does not backed up, just replace it with new one

• "Save alarm-auto save" ask me a location to save.

(I tested with tvpp compression on and off both. the result was same)

I realized it now.
The saved backuped file which has date of june & more previous, was saved from tvp pro v10
now it's other workplace, so I can't check the accurate tvp ver. but with windows 10, I think.

I don't know if this is helpful or not (because you are on Windows and I am on Mac) , but to try to reproduce the issue you are having I saved a .tvpp file with multiple layers , size of saved file was 378.7 MB.

Then I rendered a Multiplane Camera move in the file and saved it again. (rendered Multiplane layers will always make the file size get larger) When I saved it the file size now shows as 7.71 GB. I was able to close the file and then open it again.

Then I added another rendered layer to the file and saved it again. Now the file size increased to 11.3 GB. The previous two back-up versions show as 378.7 MB and 7.71 GB . I renamed both of the files as v1 and v2 and opened them again.

Back-up seems to be functioning normally on my end. Mac OS 10.12.6 , File System: Journaled HFS+ .

I see.... then It only occurs in my system,
but same thing occurs my two pc...

windows10 64bit
&
tvpaint 11.5.0 or 11.0.8

I also checked if the reason is
- X-sheet that I used in previous file, in this time without X-sheet.
- The letter included to file name like ";", I just tested with "A.tvpp"
- The depth of file location, desktop or just in C:\
- system administration authority
but these were not the reason.

Where are you saving your backup files ?
An external HDD ?
Is it formatted in NTFS or FAT32 ?

Because 2.1Gb is some magical number in windows world... it was for a long time the biggest file windows can handle.

yes, I tought that there was limited with 2gb on some format,
but it's not for my format, and also the original file is over than 2gb already....

I used only "Save" function on saving, used "save as" for the check,
but apparently save fuction ask the loacation in large file size...and multi backup doesn't worked...


This was quite annoying for a long time but I just used it, but for exemple,

when we start tvpaint, we have one new project,
and it also give me a save alarm by auto save, just like my own project, which is above 2.1gb.

Sometimes, I saved that empty initial tvpaint project to my own project for mistake,
I thought it doen't matter because i set mutlbackup.
but the original project is not backuped for a long time, because it was overed 2.1gb long time ago.....!

you know..... then I'll get the empty file, with ancient backuped files.....

Yes, I have Multi-Backup enabled in Preferences in the Save tab. One thing that is different from the screen capture you uploaded is that I have TVPP Compression enabled.

I changed the file names (version numbers) after saving, before re-opening.

There might be a permission issue on your multi-backup files, that prevents TVPaint from overwriting them.

Can you see that the file modification dates are updated, when you save your project ? if you click on "file properties", are you the owner of the files ?
