dongle detection issues

Hello!
I am on an early 2011 mac (macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra) TV paint has suddenly started to say that it "cannot detect the dongle"
I'm on a deadline and need to get this resolved as quickly as possible.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I have tried to resolve the problem by re-downloading the software to no avail I suspect it is a problem with the dongle driver but I really don't know. the software has been working really well up to this point I really don't know why this is happening.
