I use the "Merge Selected Layers" shortcut constantly, and here are 2 of its effects that could be changed.
Instead of: merged layer takes the position of the top-most pre-merge layer.
Do: merged layer takes the position of the bottom-most pre-merge layer.
Position refers to order in the layer hierarchy.
Instead of: merged layer defaults to NONE Ø post behavior.
Do: merged layer adopts the post behavior of the bottom-most pre-merge layer.
In my case I usually use HOLD post behavior.
I use a lot of temp layers where I draw details, overlay, shading, before I merge these temp layers onto the drawing below, which represents the culmination of all my illustration steps thus far. For this reason I would like the merged layer to defer the 2 mentioned properties to the lowest layer being merged. Other artists who use the same workflow would appreciate it as well.
edit: also adopt the lower layer's name instead of the top.
