I can't get the gradient function to work

Post by BruceM »

I'm trying to do a simple background gradient by following a TVPaint tutorial but it's not working. After setting my 2 colors in the A & B color boxes and checking the "Gradient" box, when I click on the project window, it's not turning into the checkered screen as in the tutorial, and drawing the stylus across the screen does nothing but leave a colored line.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Gradient works best and most obviously in cases where you fill a surface.
for instance with paintbucket, filled rectangle or filled stroke.
using this panel:

You can, in some cases, also use gradient in line drawing tools but not with all brush types.

for instance

an airbrush with reduced opacity shows it well even without pressure sensitiv input:

the penbrush gives you this: but you do need pressure sensitivity

btw
did i find a bug?

the drawing mode "B Color to A Color" does nothing?
In the documentation there is no mention of this mode and on what this drawing mode is supposed to do
but i would imagine it working like the fade connection setting
that it would change color from B to A during the applying of a stroke

broken?:

#edit#

ok i remember, this mode changes all pixels that have color value B into pixels with colorvalue A
So you could see it as a re-color mode.
that is why it does nothing on an empty frame. it needs pixels of color B to work
