Linequality- proxy - cpu-usage high

i have this problem for a while now, but it seems to get worse (i don't know if it actually does, i might just be noticing it more and more )
I have a problem drawing in proxymode, it seems that the proxy recalculation, everytime you lift the pen up, really gets in the way of a proper line. When the proxy recalculates my cpu usage shoots over 90 percent.
If i draw while the cpu is that busy , my lines are being shortcutted, meaning i get unwanted angles in curves. The scene is not too big (50 mb when saved)
Windows indicates tvpaint only uses about 200 mb of resource.

I have 2gb of ram
3000+ Ghz amd athlon 64 processor

I did not always have this problem. Could this be caused by a combination of my computer and tvp updates?
Come to think of it, i did change the harddisk at a certain point in time because of a crash.
Could the hard disk cause this perticular problem?

Thank you for your time!!

Check your cache size, in the preference panel.

i already have! I tried automatic and manual with ( a lot of) different cach sizes.

For now i'm working with render instead of proxy, no fun, but it works.

Anyway, i'll figure something out.
(An oldschool kick to the machine perhaps)
