Protractor

Protractor's an addition to RocknRoll that provides a set of XYZ axes that follow your cursor around to assist in drawing three-dimensional subjects in perspective.

Ideally, the field of vision for a single human eye can be explained as a 180-degree hemisphere with the eyeball in its center. The hemisphere is constrained to the eyeball's orientation. Protractor handles the math to transform the hemisphere onto a flat drawing plane and applies the necessary distortion to the cursor guide.

The user sets the camera orientation and Field Of View and tilt, and Protractor then calculates the 2D positions of the vanishing points (which may or may not be off-canvas).

Protractor represents a month of research and observation and about 70 hours of coding and mathematical wrangling. I am considering releasing Protractor under a commercial license (whose price is yet to be decided, though there will be a limited demo version without save functions and a full-blown one with animation capability). After I make back my initial investment, all proceeds will then go towards Marfan's Syndrome to aid people that share my genetic condition.

The commercial release date for Protractor will be soon after TVPaint goes commercial. It's "bad form" to sell a plugin whose host application is still in beta.

wow you are really took a turn up my alley here!
i am working on film about a building in which i play with perspective and optical illusions... this tool seems something cut-out for me!

but i guess i have first have to figure out how to make rock'nroll work.
because so far that looked a little too complex for me.
(i could not get it to work)

wow! Lemec quiet a couple of days... and Bang! a new amazing drawing feature!!!

now you probably have to invest some additional hours in a video tutorial,
btw, your architecture-picture exemple, did you make it in Mirage or TVPA?
(I ask that because I would love to see your drawing Recorded session,
I think a WIP-show could be a cool way to present such a feature in action)

The tool is still in its infancy as a proof-of-concept plugin. If it ever goes on sale, it will not be released until TVP is also being sold commercially, since the plugin uses many of TVP's beta SDK functions. I will only be releasing demos to the TVP team and other registered beta users who request it.

First glimpse of Protractor...

I've recorded a small non-audio protractor demo that's about 11-12 minutes long...

Sorry the quality is so low... you may notice red, green or blue lines that light up when my cursor passes over an axis lined up with a marker-point that is dropped down automatically at the beginning and end of each brushstroke.

The TVP Recording is here:

General usage demo...

This is a 24-25 minute narrated demo of protractor in use.

Not very exciting, because once I explain how to use it, the rest is pretty much just me drawing and rambling, aimlessly.
