Stop!

Sorry for the rather abrupt topic title - couldn't resist!

I was wondering if it is possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to the 'Stop Preview Playback' button. I know that Shift+Space is assigned to Play/Pause, but when the playback is paused, another click is needed before I can scroll back and forth through the animation (or do anything, in fact). If I stop the playback using the Stop button, everything works straight away, but I can't see any way to assign a shortcut to the Stop button.

Maybe I've missed something here - I hope so - because at the moment it seems to be a bit of an interruption in the workflow.

I'm not sure if I understand what you want, but have you tried the key command "Preview:Play" ? Doesn't that do what yo want?

Sorry - I don't think I explained myself very well. Here's an example of what I mean:

If I am playing back an animation and I hit the Pause button - the animation will stop but the Play/Pause button will remain highlighted - indicating the animation is paused. Whilst this button is highlighted, all the functions are still locked, as if the animation were still playing.

If, whilst the Play/Pause button is highlighted, I attempt to click on the timeline, in order so scroll through the animation, I get the little 'No Entry' icon. Once I have clicked on the screen, the Play/Pause button ceases to be highlighted and all the functions work normally.

This, in itself, is not the issue - it seems to be a normal way for the program to operate. The trouble is I can only seem to make a keyboard shortcut for 'Pause' - not for 'Stop'.

This is strange; my main computer doesn't behave that way at all, but I also have a new laptop into which I freshly loaded TVP just the other day and that one behaves the way you describe (except you can click twice on the play head in the time line to get it working). Why my regular work computer doesn't do this at all I have no idea. Someone made a tvpx called Marker Toggler, which I have placed right below my Project Panel and I love it; I actually use only that now. Try a search for it here and if you won't find it, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you. I presume you work on a PC...(or not?)

You can get it here:

It's by madsjull and, as I said, it's wonderful.

Byron, I think I have it figured out. I am using Marker Toggler but I added to it my own button that activates the Preview Play command -- only it behaves differently when it is activated from a Custom Panel button than when it is activated by the Space key or the Project Panel's button. I think the answer for you is to add your own Play button between the two Marker Toggler buttons and everything will work for you the way you want it.

BRILLIANT! Thanks Paul. It works perfectly - and the toggle marker panel is as good as you say it is too. You not only solved the issue I asked about, you also solved another one that I didn't know I had!

I'm glad I could help, but it's really Mads who solved the problems.
