Hi team
I have started learning TVpaint by reading the manual a little and experimenting a lot. I cannot make the Text tool do anything despite reading the manual.

I put the text into the text box and then I try and click on the canvas or press enter to get it to make some text appear but nothing seems to happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you are in Color mode ? (press F2)

Which text tool are you trying out; the one in the Main Panel or the one called Simple Text, under Effects>Rendering>Simple Text?

I am in colour mode using the main tool in the main panel

AARGH. I hope this is not a bug. I remember ages ago I tried the text tool and remember getting to work. Cannot remember what I did though.

1) You are in Letter mode => try to be in Word mode
2) Did you try another font ?
3) Did you update your software ?

Maybe it's the stupid sound that comes with it. ARGH!! What version of TVP are you on?

EDIT: I have some sort of virus or other mischief going on; whenever I open a forum (any forum) I hear this annoying sound looping. Sorry -- I thought you might have attached it as a joke.

I am on version 9.5.12
I tried letter and word mode. But no cigar. I tried updating from within TVpaint, but the dmg file would not mount.
Also where do I find my unlock codes? There is a code in the about section of TVpaint. Is this it ? Last time I updated I did not need any codes I just downloaded through TVPaint while it was open.

no I did not attach any sound or virus. At least no knowingly.

regarding your screen-grab, we can't see your layer panel to check if the layer blending mode is on "Color",
anyway, try "Word" instead of "Letter", then hit "Create Brush" ... you should get the "Hello World" sticked to your cursor,
btw, what's your color A ?

if it doesn't work, try to change your font, try a usual one, such as Arial, f.i.

Thanks for your help everyone. I finally got it to work, It seems I was using fonts that TVPAINT does not like. I suspect that TVPAINT only likes windows fonts. Poor mac
Wow when it does work it is really flexible ! Some of the stuff you can do !

Sorry to be a pest but I just tried to open the DMG file on my mac for the TVPAINT update. I got this message:

Justin, another hidden goodie about the Text tool is that you can copy text made in any text file and paste it, though it doesn't maintain its justification. It's a good way to run a spell checker through your text though.

Paul, you still have that nag? Is it like cheap electronic looping sounds?

It turned out to be Google's stupid celebration of 30 years of Pack Man... if you don't know what I'm talking about, you've been lucky.

I do know what it is. it was exactly Pac Man sounds. Just after googling ( ) about it it turned out that if I removed a particular browser extension (cool previews) the sounds stopped.

Invalidate Flash plugin, Java and JavaScript for Google.
