Shrinking Drawings

Post by TVPaintUser »

I scanned a few of my sketches into the computer. Then I added it to TVPaint, but it enlarged the drawing to full screen, so much that it was blurry. Is there any way to shrink your sketches on TVpaint?

When you ask "is there any way to shrink sketches" then I would tell you to adjust the size of a drawing use the Transform Tool in the Main Panel.

But I'm not sure if that is what you are asking. It seems as though when you are importing the scans in they are appearing blurry because perhaps the resolution of the scans is much smaller than the TVP project size (?) ...

What size are the original scans ? When you import the scans make sure that you put a check mark in the boxes in the Import window which say "Stretch to Project Size" and "Correct Aspect". OR choose to bring the scans in to TVP as a new Project , not as a Layer in an existing project size.

For example , let's just say you have a set of scans that are 1024 x 768 size . When you import them to TVP the path is File Menu --- Open (or Shift + L) --- Select the images to load and click "Load" --- then when the Import window opens choose the left-most tab "PROJECT" to import the scans as a new project at size 1024 x 768 (or whatever size your scans are) .

The problem you are having is that you are probably choosing to load the scans into TVP as a Layer or a Custom Brush, but the project size is set much larger than the resolution of your scans , so it is making them appear blurry. For example, if your original scans are only 800 x 600 , but you are importing them into a project size that is pre-set at a larger size like 2048 x 1556 then the smaller 800 x 600 size scans are going to appear blurry when loaded as a Layer into a 2048 x 1556 project. You need to bring those scans in as a Project , which will open them up in a new project size 800 x 600.

It's not a problem if your original scans are larger than the project size and are loaded in as a Layer ... in that case choose to load the images as a "Layer" in the Import Window and make sure the boxes are checked which say "Stretch to Project Size" and "Correct Aspect" . So for example , let's say your original scans are something like 3317 x 2249 and you're importing them to a TVP project size 1024 x 768 . The project size is smaller than the original scans , so the resolution will remain sharp , not blurry . Or just load your 3317 x 2249 scans in as a Project and the new project size will be adjusted to 3317 x 2249 and the imported scans will be sharp, not blurry. Again, the problem is in trying to load smaller size scans , say 800 x 600, to a larger project size such as 3317 x 2249 -- those would be blurry because the original scans were so much smaller than the project size. Make sense ?

See the TVP USER MANUAL section 5-6 - to - 5-7 "Load an Existing Image or Animation" .

In the Import window you have the option to import scans in as a Project or as a Layer in an existing Project -
