Someone sent me a .tvpp file today and when I tried to open it I got that warning message. Needless to say did NOT open the file.

Any idea what it means ? Does it indicate that the person who sent me the file is using a cracked/pirated version of TVPaint ?

Oh dear, the man has make very regrettable thing :(

By the way it is hard to make out.
I suggest that you should set the ratio of background and letter color contrast than 1:4.5, and change font style.

The culture of (everything) free is killing a lot of people...

By now I think it's beyond the culture of free; everyone today has to know that what they are doing is thievery. Our school holds such strict standards that the students aren't allowed to even use copyrighted music for class exercises, just to drill it home -- an exercise in honesty, if you will.

I never got this "funny" message, but is there a chance to save (legalize) those "corrupted" files? If someone spent a lot of time for his work with a pirated software that could be an argument to buy it now. Or am I totally wrong?

(By the Way: Giving EVERYTHING a market value kills definitely a lot of people in the world - just think on water and food for example.)

So does joblessness, and being wiped out by thieves.

Sorry, you are totally wrong in my opinion. If someone spent a lot of time working on software then that should be an argument against tolerating thieves. If TVPaint developers got paid their rightful income for every crack picked up by a thief, they would have enough money to hire more developers and we might be on version 11 or 12 by now, plus those extra programmers would have a job and perhaps wouldn't be standing in the unemployment lines. Think of it this way: they are not just robbing TVPaint but all of us, including you, your school, and your students.

If they want to test the software before buying it, there is a demo version.

Yes, you're right. I dont't wanted to give an argument for tolerating piracy. My thought was about a possibility to turn a pirat into an official user. The fact is, that there is piracy. Even if we don't like it or don't want to tolerate it. It was just an idea. The more I think about it the more I guess it is probably not practicable. :-)

Edit: LOL, just in this moment I notice my Pirate-Icon in this forum :D

I work at a state university .. often share with faulty by allowing them to observe some of my software tools, one of them being TVPaint of course. When I get the standard request, 'Oh that is exciting, wont you give me a copy of the software...' I tell them point blank that I do not GIVE out copies of my software and that I dont have respect for them as a professional for asking me to do so.

The distributor of illegal copies of licensed software bears tremendous burden for committing unlawful acts. Although I am strong advocate for opensource software tools, I will never use illegal software. I purchase what I want and need, saving for my purchases if need be. ~peace
