Drawing recorder on multiple layers

Post by BenEcosse »

Hi, I'm trying to use the 'Drawing Recorder panel' to build up a series of growing lines on different layers so I can re time them later.
I've create a layer called 'line1' and then opened the 'Drawing Recorder panel' > hit record > drawn my line > hit pause > then hit the layer icon.
The growing line is then applied to the layer - all good.

But when I create a new layer called 'line2' above this and then repeat the process on the new layer.... when I get to the step where I hit the apply to layer (icon) the first layer 'line1' is deleted.
I have 'line2' highlighted so I can't see why it is doing this?

What am I doing wrong?

Propably "nothing"…

Actually, each time you use this tool, a new project seems to be created (new window)
you could just copy the layer from the second project and come back and paste it in the first one on a new layer ?

but … ain't it easier to obtain such effect with "auto paint" ?
… i mean… the "drawing recorder panel" is a nice tool, but it's not conserving the alpha channel (?!)…
so, you'll be obliged to "scan clean" it if you need transparency…

(as long as I use it correctly… "œuf corse" !)

Yes, i just noticed that the alpha channel wasn't read, eventhough the line is over the checkered bkg...weird.
Thanks for pointing out the 'Auto Paint' FX i'll just use that instead.

that's one of the new features in the next coming V.10 :
Improved drawing recorder

Now, the drawing recorder allows you to choose between two modes : « Display » and « Current layer ». The last one allows you to record a stroke or a drawing and preserve the alpha channel at the same time.
6th december is coming very soon ...! :)
