I wonder if anyone else has found that when you select part of a drawing to copy it with TVP Animation> copy selection and hit control c, that the entire frame is copied not the selected part only... is this the right tool?

Copy a selection doest not work like in a Photoshop.
TVPaint manages selection, frames, layers, clips... when you copy, what do you copy ? Basically, you copy the current frame, but following your actions, you can copy a layer or a clip.
Selections are managed into the menu Tool : Selection. Here you can choose to copy (or cut) your selection as a layer or as a brush.
(The tool should be improved sooner or later, to allow a copy or cut to a new instance, new clip or new scene).

This is the real beauty of TVP's brush engine... I use a shortcut to invoke the brush cut function (the bottom leftmost icon on the main panel), to make a brush (or cut the brush) on the fly, it's way better and far more powerful than generic cut/copy and paste -- you can save it in your bin, recall it later, edit the parameters, and even save from multiple frames as an animbrush and paste the animated brush across multiple frames.

After you made a selection, use the position tool and mode your object with CTRL+4 (left), CTRL+8 (top), CTRL+6 (right) and CTRL+2 (down).

thanks for the responses idragosani and elodie... the bottom left in main panel is a skull and cross bones... delete key
also it seems klunky to turn selection into a brush... as there is no uniformity to the selections
just cutting and copying on the fly is how i like to go... thanks elodie for the move suggestions will use that
but I really think eventually it would be handy for users to be able to work with a selection in a more direct way
you select something , copy it or delete it... rotate it... its so intuitive...the program is halfway there...why have the selection tool if you cant use it for acting on the selection?
thanks again

Oops, I forgot it changed a little bit in TVP10... in the main panel, in the upper section, the bottom left that has a B inside a square, this is the brush cutting tool. LMB copies, RMB cuts.

ok idragosani cut brush is works... but when I move or copy part of a drawing I rarely will use it again- but some day i might ..thank you.
My plea: if you can select something - make it delete-able - copy able -there is room for improvement here...

You can already do it, debra :
• use CTRL + D
• hold the click on the selection tools and choose the skull in the pop-up menu
• use "Clear" in the panel Tool : Clear

By the way, I want to remind those who have completely changed their key command assignments that you can keep the default settings in another of the 4 rooms and go there to check out what Elodie or others are referring to. In this case Ctrl D refers to Shape Select: Clear.

Using the selection tool to select part of a drawing I want to delete - when I hit control D ( shape select clear )
or the clear button in the tool panel - the same thing happens : the selection is cleared ( marching ants disappear ) and nothing is deleted...

Clear = disable selection, if you prefer...
If you want to erase the contain of a selection, hit [del] on your keyboard...

Thanks Elodie- this is working intermittently...
of course hitting delete it the first thing i did...i guess the next update will help this type of issue...you had mentioned that there will be some improvements to the tools....
I know i have not been asked but people who are not working in production in animation
really dont need the stamp brush ( for saving mouths heads etc) but could really use
a tool that copies a bit of a drawing and allows you to move it... then enlarge it...
within one frame...
thanks again djsolomon

But that's exactly what the cut brush tool does. Just activate the tool (I have it bound to the 'C' key), select what you want to copy (LMB) or cut (RMB), hit 'Z' to resize as needed, and then place it wherever you want (even on other layers or frames, if you need to). You can do so much more with it, of course, but the basic functionality you are asking for is already there.
