EXPORT question:MPEG-2 encoder just for Windows ?

the manual says if I want to save animations to DVD, I need to have MPEG-2 encoder codec installed - is this instruction for both pc and mac? I have macs, os10.6.8

If you use iDVD, the program automatically converts any format into the one it needs for DVD authoring. See its manual.

thanks, I found iDVD, never used it before, so this is helpful. Looks like I should upgrade to iLife 8 or 9.
