Cut Brush Selection tool problem

Post by djsolomon »

Hi All - ok this is happening very frequently - when using the cut brush free hand selection tool
and the rectangle.... I select the part of the drawing and the brush is somehow behind the white background layer ... you can
see it behind the white.... I have to continually restart the program to make it stop happening....if you keep brushing it reveals other layers.
You can see it in the dot pattern in the photo ...sorry I could not take a screen shot as I only know how to do it on the pc with Snip application.
any ideas ?

many thanks

If you're on a Mac: screenshot is apple+shift+3, saves on desktop.

I'm not quite sure if I understand your problem from your description. Sometimes it happened to me that a brush was accidentially set to "behind", but in that case it only appeared behind the drawing on the current layer, but not behind the background. Sometimes I had a real screen refresh problem, in that case the brush was completely invisible, and some parts of the creen went black, while the parts I was drawing in went white. This could easily stopped with just hitting "play", no restart necessary.

- what's your tvpaint version, + hardware and OS do you use ?

- how many layers have you in your project ?
- what was your current layer when you cut your drawing as brush ?
- what's your CutBrush tool setting, Keep On/Off, Display On/Off, ...?
- why do you need a White BG layer ...? (set your BG color to white
should make the job, no necessity to add a layer for a white BG),
- have you a layer set as Stencil, or a selection enable, or a Paper set on ?

as you can see, we need more details to get to know what could be your issue's matter.

Debra, just go to your "Help" in TVP and select "Check for Updates".

About the screenshot:

on a Windows PC use the "Print Scrn" button on your keyboard to grab the current screen, or Alt "Print Scrn" to grab the current active window.

The screenshot (or screendump or clipboard) resides in your computer memory and can be loaded into TVP using one of the clipboard options under the Edit" dorpdown menu.

Are you sure you are not working on a layer which is inactive or which is below another layer ?

Hi Elodie- That is the first thing that i check for ( also you get a warning sound if you do that by mistake)
I think it had something to do with the freehand selection tool...I use that allot before I use the cutbrush...
It seem that it may interfere with the cutbrush in some way.

my earlier post :
what is not in the note below is that I am toggeling between the selection tool and the cutbrush - as maybe the selection tool is part of the problem?

hi djs,
I'm not sure about the absolute necessity to open twice the same subjet to get faster your issue resolved ...

the screenshot we are asking is not mainly to see the result, but to see all your tools settings,
so, if you can't provide a full tvp screenshot, at least give us more informations on your
full process, and all the settings you have when it occures (Selection tool, cutbrush tool,
current layer settings, other layers settings, active Paper, active Stencil, Alpha settings, ...)

btw, are you on PC or Mac ?
... and what happen when, after done your selection, you use the command "Copy Selection to Brush"
(in the selection tool panel) ?

hi ZO
I posted it again as the issue was not cleared up by the new edition of tvp9 which is what I had hoped for)...and as i am using this tool maybe 20 times a day clearing it up
is very pressing- I have to restart the program and the computer to make it go away and this is a pain in the derriere... ; )

I will post the screen shots later toiday when it happens again.... but I am out of office for meetings most of the day

thanks for your help
