FX Animation online course

Post by idragosani »

This was posted on Cartoon Brew recently, it's an effects animation course that costs $24 AUD (about $25 US) a month. This class covers stuff like lightning, fire, water, physics, and so on, and is software and technique anonymous (you can do the classwork using pencil and paper and scanning your art, if you want). There's also a forum where you can upload assignments, get feedback from the instructor and other classmates. Most people seem to be using ToonBoom (boo!) so we obviously need more TVPaint representatives there :-)

Instructor is Adam Philips, who has worked for Disney (Australia) and creates a web series of short animations called Brackenwood.

Here's one of the assignments I did this past weekend, a candle flame. I used a video reference to work out keyframes and then hand-drew the in-betweens, and then of course hand-colored everything (using the "water color pen" brush for a painterly look).

EDIT: I corrected the URL

Don't know what happened to it, it was there one minute and gone the next. Must have clicked on something wrong :-( I'll re-upload later when I am back on my animation machine.

Nicely done.

I think a few more connecting drawings at the end and you could get it to cycle back to the beginning .

Nice one. It almost looks rotoscoped - in the nicest possible way :D The course looks good too. Adam is a whizz at effects. I must look at this again when I have a little more time. I always struggle with that kind of animation
