ideas and questions

1.On more than one occasions, while using stencils, I can't find the toggled stencil from my layers straight away. While scrolling up and down, negative and positive stencil icons get blended with the toggle stencil icon.

Could they only be shown when the stencil is activated?

This seems so obvious way to unclutter the interface for new users that it makes me think there is something I don't understand...
Is there a reason why the negative and positive stencil icons are shown all the time?

If this is a major fix, just a little bit of color to the toggle could also do the trick just fine.

2.Does anybody else face the occasional need to see straight from the .tvpp project file what's inside without opening it? I have a lot of poorly named tests and illustrations, and it would benefit me to have a preview possibility straight from the project files.

3. The show last used tools option is great. Im leaning towards using it more and more. But when I check it out, there could be 30 variations from a penbrush, and no way to know which is which. Mostly, when I use it, I look for a coloring penbrush with certain width and certain color. One solution could be, for example, if the grey area under the brush icon would be filled with the used color. This color might then reveal the reason for the brush to exist, and I could pick it up again.

Yes, no?

1 Yes!
2 you mean something like an animated icon, a bit like the way clips are shown in the project view? a yes i guess
3 Yes!

I was thinking this second request from illustrational point of view. Then, just showing the first frame could quickly guide me to remember what kind of ideas it might contain. It would help me to do some quick inventary check every once and a while. You know, just to keep a little bit track of what I have, without always having to open up all the files.
I wasn't thinking about it being animated, but why not?

In the project tab, you have a note area, where you can write anything as text.
Maybe can we display this in the file requester when you click on a project icon.

Text could make files clearer, yes. But there is still this picture to text problem. First I would have to figure out how to clearly turn the unfinessed ideas into text, so the text could then later easily and quickly be deciphered. But a picture could show instantly what it contains, and maybe hit some subconscious memories that tell you there might be something interesting here.

It could be something like this… But if nobody else gets the same idea while browsing their project files, I just might have to focus on my organizational skills and develop a clearer system to keep track of my stuff. :)

1. Yes
2. I wouldnt use it but I understand the need. I would actually have less information. I''m not using the TVpaint file requester because . I have for instance 200 tvpp files in the same folder. and it takes a long time for tvpaint to scan so many files so tvpaint can display all the information. like resolution. icon etc. this slows down my process so I am actually forced to use the system file browser that is so much faster. So I would like the feature to be able to disable the informations when using the tvp file requester so it would be as fast to use as the system file browser. So if it was possible to disable the feature I wouldnt mind being able to show small giffs of whats inside the project. but if it slows down file browsing more I find it problematic for some users(me for one)
3. Yes

Me dumb, and thanks Mads! I started wondering about your comment on using the system file browser instead tvp's file requester. I didn't really understand what you meant with file requesters, but now I DO! :D

As it turns out, what I was looking for was already on the tvp's file requester. I just wanted to see the first frame of the project, and there they are. This was exactly the same thing I felt I wanted to see on the "system file requester" what I was using.

And I agree that making an animated GIF from a tvpp file with 200 scenes, is way too much. Way way too much. No need for nothing like that over here either.

Unless somebody gets sparked up with interpreting request number 2, I'll have to pull it and leave 1 and 3.

Cool that the tvpaint filerequester delivers what you where looking for. I think it is much better than the system filerequester. Butunfotunately it is slow because of the scanning so i am unfortunately forced to use the system filerquestwr :(

This is a rough idea for the "show last used tools", but it should work.

this way I could see "oh, there is the black I used for the outline in the dark area". "And there's the blue I used to color the head"
Don't know, there could be better ways to do it, but this would help at least me. :)

No idea if this is doable for the team
but i like the idea and it would be helpful to me

I've been carrying around in my head a similar wish, except that it has nothing to do with colors but different settings of the Profile Editor. When I draw, I often tweak my profile editor to change the softness of my pencil. Would there be a similar way to make this show in the collection of last tools used? Perhaps instead of color in the background it would show an icon with the shape of the curve; the same one that shows up in the "Size" window of the pen/brush settings?

I wasn't really able to think that there might be different ways to work, I was just going forward with the idea. But of course there is, and it's narrow-minded from me not to see that.

One solution is that the background information could be customized.
showusedtoolsedit.png

Here you could choose what info is shown according to your needs.

But this might be too much. It would create more menus and would lead to more loose ends: if there is two ways to customize the info, there is more. What to choose? And I don't know how big of a code job it would be. Would it be so big that it would be easier to just make enough tools to the tool bin, and make the icons myself?

Still, this show last used tools is interesting me. There is something that can be done different, I can just feel it.
(but what I really should be doing, is my bachelor work!)

No reasons at all :P
It's a good idea I think :)

That would be nice, but here, it's up to the developers to answer ^^

The idea is good, but I don't know if it would be possible.
