about moving selected pixels

Post by Lukas »

It would be nice when you use the lasso to select a part of the drawing, when you start moving the selection around, it would 'crop' the selection to only non-transparant pixels. And wouldn't add new pixels to the selection.

Photoshop behaves like this, it makes moving selections much easier.

Perhaps a case of "Display" being checked during cutbrush operation - so all layers (and background) is being captured?

I'll try and make a recording of the different kind of behaviours and post it here :) But...I need to find some time ;)

Ehm, ok I just did it right away, no need to search for time...

Here's a video showing TVPaint selection + moving behaviour and then showing how the same actions in Photoshop have different results:

I personally think the Photoshop way is better, but I understand Adobe has a crazy big team and money...

That doesn't happen here. Here it crops like you see in photoshop.
(I'm on W7 64x.)

Looks like a bug.

Ah, that's strange.

It's like this for me on both 32 and 64 bit on OS X.

Another question about the lasso tool, is it possible to substract from a selection with the lasso tool? (Again, referring to Photoshop where 'shift' is Add to selection and 'alt' is Substract from selection)

For me 'add' is on by default and subtract is by pressing the right mouse button, also by default. I have one of the buttons on the wacom pen set to erase and this works as 'subtract selection' as well.

When using the Panning tool to move around my computer behaves the same way as Lukas.
I gueass Lukas is referring to the panning tool and not the transform tool.

Bug or not, why not use a cutbrush to accomplish the same thing?

That's what I do now. But since these tools are nice too.

Ah, I just checked the difference between 'Shape Transform: Pan' and 'Shape Transform: Position'.

'Shape Transform: Position' works a bit better. But it still doesn't crop transparent pixels when you lasso a selection. But there might be a way to add this to a custom tool if there's a function to crop a selection to opaque pixels or something.

Personally, I like the way 'Shape Transform: Pan' doesn't require me to hit 'enter' and doesn't show the transform box. But I guess that's also why it's adding stuff to the selection...

hi All I would like to add to this thread as a note to the TVP crew that there is an issue with the shape transform tool
I have it assigned to a key command and it crashes quite allot.
To the lovers of the cut brush I am right there with you it's an amazing tool BUT some times its not the best way to do something
and i think the beauty of TVP is the range of solutions it offers users... so it seems to me that no tools should crash the program...
here is what happens:
1 . I want to move a part of a drawing ( not the entire drawing)
2 I select the portion of the drawing using the shape select :freehand which i have assgned to a key command
3 I hit my key command for shape transform:position ( a bounding box appears around the selection AND the mask button becomes highlighted)

If i do not deselect( using my key command for Shape select clear ) immediatly after moving or aletering the bounding box - and i pick another tool the program crashes
fixing this would be great... me thinks ; )

my best , debra

Hmm, indeed, that's a strange behavior.
Does anyone experiment the same thing ?

thanks for responding to the post Elodie...
I have been having this problem for some time - i think I posted about it a year ago.
. I am not sure if the issue is the mask or shape transform tool . I like being able ot move a selection with out having to make a cut brush- (when using the cutbrush you have to earase the original line work so this is faster...)

many thanks, debra
