HI TVP People,
Just wondering what the difference is between making a custom configuration or a custom template?
Thanks!
Hilary

Saving a template is something I think of as more permanent, or at least long term. I may get a new job and decide I need to use the same template I had used for such and such a job last year.

Saving a configuration is something I will do to start a new configuration (which might become a new template). Or while I am working with a certain template, I might have a need to start a new configuration while staying with the same template.

I think there can be many variations of these combinations depending on our individual work flows.

Thanks Paul - are there things that you could save in the configuration that would not be saved just by saving a template? Having some admin issues with school computers right now and I just want to clarify what is what. I know that the configurations are stored in a default hidden system folder - are the templates stored in the same place. Have you had any issues transferring configurations or templates from one computer to another?
Cheers,
Hilary

Those are loaded questions and I say this with terror in my soul. I have yet to meet someone, anyone on line or in person, who can answer these questions with any clarity. To get a beginning of an answer you have to state which OS and which version. Then it depends on whether you have administrative privileges. In the school lab where I taught, the IT was clueless to answer your type of questions and just refused to go there.

Having said that, I have used with success fishing files out of this path (PC):

C:\Users\paul\AppData\Roaming\tvp animation 10 pro\AR&T (name of one of my templates)
and there I find the treasure collection of
Brushes
Custom Panel
filterstack
FSF
george
icons
opacitymaps
particlelibs
templates
and the current config.ini with today's date and time

Otherwise, we have a netwirk at home but I have never had a need to import my configs into Sandra's computer but I can't see why it couldn't be done since she has the same setup of monitors as I do.

Has this helped you a little?

Awesome answer - thank you for taking the time! I have successfully transferred my Creamers config to other computers by putting it in the system folder. I am on Windows 7 and I just copy and paste the file path into my browser and I get where I am going. Don't think the students can do this though. That said if they can continue to access their template each time they log on (on the same computer right now haven't tried a logon from a different computer - that may be the hitch thinking about it right now) anyway I digress. Just wanted to make sure there was no significant user difference between creating a custom config and a template...before I speak to IT.
Cheers Paul! :D
