Imported my mac preferences to my windows machine, menu gone

On my mac I've disabled the File Edit Project Clip Layer Image Effects View Windows Custom panels Help menu. So it's not there twice.

I've imported my preferences on my windows machine, and replaced all my Cmd shortcuts with Ctrl trough notepad. But now the File-Edit-Project-menu is completely gone. How can I get it back without resetting my preferences?

Can I put my preferences in a different folder only on Pro?

Because I've got a non-pro license on a machine for interns, but I'd like to put the preferences in the dropbox so I can easily give them my settings so all tools/shortcuts are the same.

It would be easier to transfer preferences between machines if a Windows machine would just always show the File-Edit-Project-menu, and if an OS X machine would never show the extra File-Edit-Project-menu. And if all Cmd shortcuts would be Ctrl shortcuts on the other and vice versa.

Looks like a bug, for sure ! It's not suppose the do this !

What if you use [shift + D] ? Can you access the preferences and enable the menus in the "interface" tab ?

Taht's already the case : Standard and Professional editions don't use the same folder. :)

People with cintiqs WANT the 'extra' menubar, because the cintiq is usually the second monitor and the 'normal' menu bar is on the main screen.
Having only the menubar on one screen and the rest of the interface on another is just plain weird !

I use none of the standard shortcuts because I found them hard to remember. So I can't use [Shift + D], because my Preferences shortcut is [Cmd + P], and Windows has no Cmd.

My shortcut for configuring keyboard shortcuts is [Cmd + K].

The way I was able to access both those menus was by making a button in one of the custom panels that was open that would open the preferences/keyboard-shortcuts. If TVP on windows would understand that all Cmd+something shortcuts should be Ctrl+something, there would be no problem with the shortcuts.

Sorry, that wasn't very clear! I meant something else, I see how that was confusing. :)

Is there a way to put the preferences folder of the non-Pro TVP in a different location? I want to put it in the dropbox.

I was able to do this with TVP-Pro, but can't find it in the non-Pro version.

I am also on a Cintiq, and it's actually fine. No other software ever has double menu bars, because none of them need it. But fine.

Disabling the option for Windows to hide it would also work. I'm sure there are 0 users who want the menu to be hidden on windows, right?

At the moment, you can manually fix the problem.

• make a copy of your default folder with your configuration
• open the default folder and open the file "config.ini"
• choose the entry usetvpaintmenu and change "=0" into "=1"
• save the change

Then, you'll be able to use your Mac configuration on Windows, but you'll keep the menu bar.

Well, you won't be able to access anything from the menu at all. Besides, the function to turn it off is hidden in the preferences on windows, so it's clearly not meant to be able to disappear.

Thanks!

Because TVP is so panel+shortcut dependant, I'll have to do this often. So if it ever gets updated that would be great.

What's the best way to manage panels and such? In big productions all animators would need the same tools, right? Is there a way to streamline this? Or is sending panels really the way to do this?

Custom panels you mean ?
If so, yes, the share manager has been made for this purpose !

Yes, this is precisely the set up I have , with TVPaint open on Cintiq screen and my Macbook as second screen. I do want the extra menu bar option in Preferences .

There is a Mac app called Menu Everywhere which is intended to duplicate the Mac menu bar on all screens and windows, but when I tried it it did not work well with TVPaint. But this has been some time since I tried it , so maybe with updates they have improved it, so I might try again. However, I would request to please keep the extra menu bar option in TVPaint Preferences.

I understand why some people would want it the Cintiq is not the main screen. I guess I don't need it because I have my Cintiq set as my Main screen and my 'normal' monitor as secondary...

By the way, OS X Mavericks will introduce an option to have the menu bar on all screens: http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/#multiple-displays" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So in the future TVPaint can trash the feature anyway. ;)

Until then, please have Windows always show the Menu bar so it doesn't matter if it's turned off in the .ini file.
