Adjusting multiple layers at once

Hello,

I'm loving TVPaint! Thank you for such an awesome program! I have a question that I'm sure has been asked before, I just cant seem to find the answer in the forum. I would like to understand how to move multiple layers around on the timeline while keeping the original spacing intact of the instances. In the manual, shift selecting the layers that you want to move is obvious and really helpful, IF, all the layers have a matching instance on that same frame number. By selecting the top box in the instance, all of the corresponding shift+selected layers move together. This is awesome and exactly what I'm looking for, but, what if you have layers with instances that don't line up on the same frame number and I need to shift everything 20 frames to the right and I have frames that are staggered throughout the timeline? In a video editing program, such as Final Cut, I can click-drag all of the staggered layers at once and just move it to the right while I work out the new timing before the shift, keeping the timing of the work that was selected, but in a new location further on the timeline.

I hope that makes sense!

Thank you for your time! :D :D

Of course you can only shift stuff around inside layers if at this point there's an instance in every layer. If not: just create one, shift, then re-compute (if many).

Hi,
I was wondering the same. I like to work fluidly in different stages of the proses. And TVpaint helps me a lot to do that. But i find the retiming of complecated scenes is a bit too difficult. Of coarce it would be possible to do with Slowtiger method, but that's not so fast, if there is many layers (+10).

So what I am looking is the same thing what the buttons +1 and -1 in animation panel do for exposures, but would do that for every layer, and keep the layers in time, eaven if some of the layers would be empty at current time. That would easy my timing issues a lot - finetune the pauses and paly with 1's and 2's etc.

Is it possible to do small script for that? Or is there allready solution for this?

I am using TVpaint standard version 10.5, 32bit

I think I understand what Tatu wants - a function like in Flash (F5) which just adds frames on all selected layers at the current position. Basically in TVPaint it would be the same "Add +1 Exposure" but for multiple selected layers. This would be REALLY useful!

Yes, Soom I am seeking for that. For me moust handy would be "Add +1 Exposure" and "Delete -1 Exposure" for ALL the layers in clip, without need to select the layers.

Having it for all the layers would be cool, but once you go there, someone will certainly want to have it for selected layers as well. Maybe the default could be all unless layers are selected.

select the layers you need and use the instance small square to adjust the timing for all layers.

Yes, that I can do sometimes, but if the current frame dosen't have instance, that method will mess up my sync between layers. So I should do new instance in every layer at current time, and then adjust timing. That isn't so fast either with multiple layers.

sure, there is still some room for improvement.
I think it's doable in a custom action within a custom panel.

Yes, I think that it's shouldn't be so hard to do custom action for that. Action should only select first layer and give "Add +1 Exposure" (or "Delete -1 Exposure") command and then select next layer and repeat that untill the +1 ( or -1) Exposure - command has been given to all layers. Sadly I am not familiar with TVPiant's custom actions.

Svengali made this custom panel some time ago

There are two buttons, +1 exposure and -1 exposure for all layers.
Test it and see if it's what you're looking for.

That's exactly what we need, but it lacks one important option - ability to apply this command only on selected layers, and not on all of them. I will ask Sven if he could add this...
Thanks!

P.S. I actually think that the default behavior for "Add 1 Exposure" button in the animation panel should be applied on active layer, of none selected, and on multiple layers, if some are selected... I guess it's an easy tweak.

You can lock the layers you don't want the action applied on.
And I'd like to add that I think these buttons should be in TVP by default.
