Reapply on multiple instances without creating new instances

This has been bugging me for years.
Why is it, that whenever you reapply a tool like floodfill or a brush stamp over multiple selected frames, the instance is broken into several instances on ones rather than just applying on heads only?
Is there a solution or will this go straight to feature request?
of course, one can always reapply then recompute, but some projects are so huge that it becomes too slow a process and it's actually faster to do it manually by going next instance, reapply, next instance, reapply...

You can eventually disable the option 'auto break instance", in "image" menu > "instance".

yeah, I've done that and it doesn't change anything. If I draw with a brush between instance heads, with that turned off, no new instance is created as I would expect but unfortunately that doesn't apply for the reapply function.

I confirm this and have always just used the recompute button, which in all my cases so far works out pretty close to happening instantly.

ryberg,
Last year I posted a button and script in a tvpx that solved this problem (without creating new instances). The script took about 40 lines. Since then I've learned a new George command that takes care of the same process in a one line script! Try it.
download "ReApply Heads Only" here

if it's a bug, it's very common. I've seen this on 25+ different workstations, both mac and pc.
But yeah, it does seem like a bug to me as well.
@ Svengali
Thanks for the script, I was just about to consider doing something similar, good work.

Normal, it the same code on all OS, since not an input/output
